Popular Post rooster59
Virus rebellion! Thais returning at airport refuse to go into government sanctioned quarantine Image: Sanook Thai media reported that there was a rebellion at Suvarnabhumi airport last night at 8pm as officials and health authorities tried to force a group of 100 Thais into government sanctioned quarantine over the coronavirus. The returnees from abroad refused to be taken to Sattahip and two hotels set apart for them in Bangkok. They demanded someone explain to them why they had to do this as they claimed they had no idea about it. Sanook reported that a military man with the rank of major general was summoned to negotiate with the angry crowd. After twenty minutes the reluctant health authorities were obliged to back down and the group were allowed to go into a 14 day quarantine at their homes. The Department of Health said that three of the group with fever had already been found. These disappeared in the crowds taking advantage of the confusion. Sanook reported that a top level meeting to discuss this incident is due to take place at 9 am this morning. Thousands of troops deployed to enforce curfew yet an angry mob can dictate to those "in charge". Unbelievable. 57 4 1
Popular Post RandolphGB
They boarded their planes thinking they would shortly be home, seeing family again, without ever being told that they would have to spend 14 days in a quarantine prison. It’s understandable that they were angry. Many would not have returned if they had known what would happen. Popular Post bangkokfrog
Ha..ha..ha!!! This article made my day! Not because potential carriers were released into public, but because it shows up the poor planning and ineptitude of the responsible authorities. Sadly, the next incoming group will probably be met with guns. Edited April 4, 2020 by bangkokfrog

Unbelievable. Entirely believable . During the ' Bangkok Shutdown ' the army also sat on its hands. They only act if they feel their place at the trough is threatened. 9 1 4

Popular Post z42
Didn't Thai nationals need fit to fly certificates before they would be allowed to board planes, as an entry requirement at the Thai end. If that was the case here, and they'd obtained that, then i see why they would be unwilling to undergo quarantine for something they'd been cleared for already. 11 2
Popular Post darksidedog
Now can you imagine the furore if 100 farang were putting on the same performance. There would be calls for all of us to be deported or shot. 41 2 7

Popular Post Dcheech
Hey IO/Police! Leave Those PooYais Alone!! Back off , these are Very Important People, & need to get home. No quarantine or self isolation for them. No no. Thai Authorities best tactic is IGNORE and pretend nothing happened maybe no one will notice. Go find some dirty foreigners, and bang them up in the hoosegow. 11

Because that is the law and it has been well advertised that returnees face 14 days of government quarantine. Claiming ignorance of the law doesn't safe you from being subject to it. I bet they all had been told at the point of departure that quarantine would await them. Yet as usual each one of them was of course rather sure that they could avoid it under the quintessential Thai motto: "The law applies to everybody except me, me, me." And three, who had shown a high fever "disappeared in the crowds taking advantage of the confusion"? What crowds? Those other 97 arriving passengers? And it was impossible for officials to locate them again among these "crowds"? [ shaking my head in disbelief]
Popular Post djayz
It feels like I've read a similar article just a month/month and a half ago about people returning from South Korea, but I know that can't be the case - these people would never make the same mistake twice... ???? It's reassuring to know that the "authorities" really do have everything under control... Edited April 4, 2020 by djayz

I reckon the authorities will revise the procedures after this to include a printed notification on official government letterhead handed to them before they deplane. They will also immediately sequester those with elevated temperatures so they can't just 'disappear'.

Correct...The Thai Government stipulated that passengers had to have the certificate prior to boarding their flights at their departure airport, otherwise they could not board the flight,no mention that they would be quarantined after having a clean bill of health, the authorities do not have a clue what to do,its all knee jerk reactions to whats happening in other countries now,its coming back to bite them in the butt now!! Dont be surprised to see an alarming number of deaths in the next few weeks, and mass panic, the Temple crematoriums will be working overtime! They should/could have had this under control many weeks ago,but certain Government figures reckoned the hot weather would blow it away by Songkran...DUH!!!. The Thai Government Offices should be renamed 'The Dream Factory' inhabited by absolute F***wits. TIT. 5 1

HaoleBoy
If there was a rapid and reliable CV-19 test available, these people could have all been tested right then and there. Not just taking fever readings. The only CV-19 test I know that is available now, you will get results "within" 5 days.

But the sheer dynamics of this contagion and how it is being addressed has trumped that. The need for embassy letters and certificates was all that was required before the introduction of the State of Emergency. Now we have a new night time curfew as well so hopefully the next lot will just get on the bus and go to their Sattahip gulag, no guns required.
