rooster59
Hua Hin: "Cheap" three hour Covid-19 test available to all from Tuesday Image: Daily News Daily News published a report that Hua Hin Hospital has come up with their own Covid-19 testing lab and that it was quick and cheap and available to all. The hospital's Facebook page advertised the test that can be accessed from the 7th of April at a cost of between 3,500 and 5,000 baht. The price range was not explained but the hospital said that insurance could be used to cover the cost. It was available from 8 am to 8 pm and people could call the hospital to make an appointment. Results would be available within three hours. Director Dr Niran Jantrakoon said that those running temperatures of 37.5 and in high risk categories would not have to pay. The lab would be helpful for those who wanted to know their status even without symptoms. He said that being proactive in testing and finding out if people were infected before they developed symptoms was vital in helping to contain the disease and indicated that more foreigners from risky countries were being tested by using chest x-rays. But staying home and isolating was important, said the director. Popular Post kevin612
3000-5000 is not cheap, the government can’t even take care the Thai people. Don’t you think the government able to take care the foreigners? Once a foreigner is sick, the hospital will dig all your funds out. Stay safe, everybody. 6 1

spidermike007
I hear testing is 8,000 to 18,000 baht elsewhere in Thailand. Likely the 5,000 baht price is for foreigners.

Popular Post Iron Tongue
Have they really developed their own tests, or have they just sneaked a bunch of Chinese quick-tests into the country? Y'know, the ones determined to only work 30% of the time and which China can't even give away anymore. 3

And yes it's also an approved veterinary medicine.

This was forwarded to WHO, but nothing is heard of it being tested further. This is not new news, they also gave SARS patients this cocktail back then, and they said they had some success. Not sure how true it is, but wouldn't be surprise if it works. Shouldn't be bad if administer in correct dosage.

She also mentioned that many drugs had some success with SARS and the speed/extend of new infections reduced fairly quickly and the drugs being tested were never explored properly. Yesterday on the ABC news here in Sydney a journalist asked the national chief medical offer to comment on the news about re Ivermectin. He quickly commented that he had seen the interview and he had followed up quickly to offer whatever support might be helpful to the researchers in Melbourne and he hopeful that approval would come quickly to start live testing. On another news channel another research professor also spoke positively re Ivermectin and also mentioned that so far it's seen as a possible treatment but a vaccine is still needed urgently. Popular Post spidermike007
It is always amusing when Thais tell us something is really cheap. I remember how many people used to tell me how cheap Thailand was. I would always correct them. Thailand is still reasonable, but it stopped being cheap years ago. Now, few talk about how cheap it is with steadily rising prices. I would not refer to the cost of this test as cheap. And I seriously doubt that Dr. Niran would either, with a straight face, if he were paying for this out of his pocket.

For the SARS drug, I read that the virus went away quickly before pharmaceutical companies saw a need to develop the a drug for it as it was not profitable. It seems like it would be good for organizations like WHO or government to support the development of these drugs.
