Phuket Governor orders ‘Patong Shutdown’

PHUKET: Patong has been “shut down” by order of the Phuket Governor, with all non-essential travel in or out of the tourism town denied in the hope of preventing a major outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus on the island.

Nine new COVID cases in Phuket, total hits 109

PHUKET: The Phuket Communicable Disease Committee today (Apr 4) announced nine more confirmed cases of people in Phuket infected with the COVID-19 coronavirus, bringing the total number of people in Phuket infected with the disease since the outbreak began to 109.

Tourist complains about crowded visa office, shoddy treatment by Thailand

Tourists stranded in Koh Samui were treated badly by Immigration officials, a German tourist moaned. The tourist, whose name is being withheld by The Nation to spare him any potential trouble, complained that he and other tourists had to be in a crowded office at the Immigration centre in Koh Samui to apply for visa extension.

Khon Kaen to shutter hotels from April 7

TDRI calls for suspension of overseas arrivals to contain Covid-19 threat

The Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) has advised the government to suspend the issuance of letters by Royal Thai Embassies and consulates and the use of fit-to-fly medical certificates for people to enter the country to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infections.

Senior army officers to oversee passenger screening at Bangkok airports

The Thai military has appointed two senior officers to be in charge of the screening of arriving passengers at the Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang international airports, to avoid a repeat of the incident at Suvarnabhumi international airport yesterday evening, when a group of arriving Thai passengers refused to be quarantined and were allowed to go home.

Banks to resume full services from April 7
