Phuket Governor orders ‘Patong Shutdown’

PHUKET: Patong has been “shut down” by order of the Phuket Governor, with all non-essential travel in or out of the tourism town denied in the hope of preventing a major outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus on the island.

Nine new COVID cases in Phuket, total hits 109

PHUKET: The Phuket Communicable Disease Committee today (Apr 4) announced nine more confirmed cases of people in Phuket infected with the COVID-19 coronavirus, bringing the total number of people in Phuket infected with the disease since the outbreak began to 109.

Tourist complains about crowded visa office, shoddy treatment by Thailand

A picture taken on Friday evening shows a crowd of foreign nationals applying for visa extension at Koh Samui Immigration Office, which serves both tourists in Koh Samui and Koh Phangan.


Tourists stranded in Koh Samui were treated badly by Immigration officials, a German tourist moaned. The tourist, whose name is being withheld by The Nation to spare him any potential trouble, complained that he and other tourists had to be in a crowded office at the Immigration centre in Koh Samui to apply for visa extension.

Khon Kaen to shutter hotels from April 7





Khon Khaen will shut down all hotels on April 7 to stem the Covid-19 outbreak, according to the resolution of the province's Communicable Disease Committee on Friday (April 3)

TDRI calls for suspension of overseas arrivals to contain Covid-19 threat

The Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) has advised the government to suspend the issuance of letters by Royal Thai Embassies and consulates and the use of fit-to-fly medical certificates for people to enter the country to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infections.

Thai returnees from foreign countries who has arrived on Friday night and had refused to be quarantined must report themselves to officials by 6pm on Saturday (April 4), the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration’s spokesman, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, said on Saturday.

Spain to extend state of emergency to April 26 as rise in infections slows

MADRID (Reuters) - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Saturday he would ask parliament to extend lockdown measures by 15 days until April 26, as the rate of new coronavirus infections and deaths slowed again in one of the world's worst-hit countries.

LONDON (Reuters) - A conspiracy theory that links 5G mobile telecommunications masts to the spread of the novel coronavirus is dangerous fake news and completely false, Britain said on Saturday after masts in several parts of the country were torched.
