Governors put on alert for tougher measures to contain Covid-19

All provincial governors have been told to brace for potential drastic measures to stop the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.

 

Interior Ministry permanent secretary Chatchai Phromlert issued on Saturday (April 5 ) an urgent order demanding all provincial governors to have action plans ready for drastic measures if the government's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration steps up efforts to stop the spread of the new coronavirus.

 

According to the order, all governors must be ready to do the following:

 

▪︎ They have to prepare a local quarantine facility, including using private property for that purpose. 

 

▪︎They must be ready to arrange makeshift hospitals, food and beverage stockpile, points for receiving donations and open channels for communicating with people.

 

▪︎They have to make people better understand the need to combat the virus, such as by convincing people to stay at home and avoid any kind of travel. Local officials and local leaders have to jointly lay out action plans and do a trial run on how to implement them.

 

▪︎They have to make a plan to prevent hoarding of goods and enforce the law strictly.

 

▪︎They have to have logistics action plans to ensure the transport of goods, consumer goods, and basic necessities. ▪︎They have to designate areas to hand out food and beverages to people in villages or local communities.

 

According to the daily report on the Covid-19 situation, Thailand’s total number of patients rose to 2,169, with 102 new cases confirmed over a 24-hour period and three patients, including a foreigner, dying, Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said on Sunday (April 5).

 

Earlier, Thai authorities had indicated that if the numbers continued to rise, curfew hours may be expanded from the current 10pm to 4am.

It kind of sounds like a 24 hr. Lockdown including grocery since they are suggesting food bank locations.  I can see that part of it being a big problem.

The food banks are intended for the poor and income-less (because of the quarantine)

Not for everyone

There will be no full 24-hr curfew

It's obvious to me.  Getting ready for a lock down is what it  is.   No government would issue such orders if they had not already made the decision.

I thought the same thing when they announced the potential for 24 hour'ish lockdown (with potential windows available for restocking) yesterday or the day before... They have already decided it but they are trying to set the expectations and get the population ready for it in 7 days...

As of yesterday, Thailand has done 25,000 tests.

 

Italy had done 691,000 tests.

 

The true picture of this tragedy is yet to be seen.

It’s the only option the PM has,too many people still showing total disrespect for the current laws. I see normal housing extensions going on,I see bubble tea shops open,small none essential businesses still open. They can’t contain the spread if people are just going about business as usual. I needed to go to a pharmacy the other day and was shocked at how many people are out and about,how many businesses still open I thought would be closed.

its going to be tough,but once again people have brought it upon themselves. Here in CM they already have prepared the emergency hospital at the convention center,so now it’s just getting the final plan in place with the army. Checkpoints,patrols,places to hold those caught breaking the curfew,working out how to allow people to get necessities.

I think it will be here within the next week or two.

I don't believe the 25k figure of tests, made up number i think to try to give the impression they are testing sufficiently

i don't understand why all those measures are neccasary, when Thailand

coronavirus cases are not growing exponentialy and there are not many 

death cases.

it's only 100-150 cases a day, steady for allready few weeks.

the total number of confirmed cases, after three months since the first

case was discovered, are only 2000+ cases. 

seems like a huge victory over the virus, if the infection rate was high we would

only see photos of packed hospitals and bodies lying in the street (happans

in new york daily). 

so maybe better relax, the way thai knows so well, and just keep it cool and distant,

sweden style. and indeed in may it will all go away.

there is no way to hide or deny when the outbreak happans.

the hospitals are just full of people coughing and acctually dying everywhere.

people cough blood and fall dead in the streets, shops, offices.

this is happaning right now in new york.

this is what happaned in wuhan china (only when it allready happaned, 

the chinese governemt started to act).

and this is NOT happaning in thailand. 

maybe the weather? maybe the good spirits? maybe another lighter mutation

of the virus?

let's just hope and pray it will stay this way, and go away in may.

How do you know this? A good friend is a logistics officer in the Thai Marines. She told us yesterday that we should prepare for a total 24 hour lockdown. Stock up on food, drinking water, etc.

How about ensuring the distribution of masks 

 

How about not trying to fool people into thinking that check is the same as test

 

Thailands "testing" efforts are totally inadequate, it quite frankly is a joke, number tested relates directly to infection rate and morbidity data - 25k in over 3 months is a joke, the current figures they are pumping out are a nonsense

The figures reported may be accurate

as far as 100 (or so) new cases on the books per day

But how many did they infect before symptoms showed and they wound up in hospital?

 

That would be family, friends, people at markets, people lining up at the 7/11,

in the government offices...on and on.

 

Not to mention sharing somtum with the mob next door.

 

The numbers reported are just that-numbers reported, and remember these are only the ones forced to go to hospital.

 

It would be incredibly incredibly lucky if these 100 per day have managed to not infect another new round of carriers.

Actually, I disagree, I have no idea how the figures are collected or compiled, however I do know that a lot of people are getting tested.

I had cause to get 50 people tested very recently, this was not that easy to organise as all of the hospitals / laboratories are flat out testing, two weeks ago we had to get 6 guys tested as a precaution, our staff spent over 4 hours trying to find a hospital that could accommodate this, some of the bigger hospitals in BKK had several hundreds of people at each hospital waiting on site to be tested per day and were estimating an 8 hour wait at least, the swab tests take less than 3 minutes per person, later on that week we had 4 people go to one of the drive thru testing centres, again in BKK and there were hundreds there also.

Based on this, I would think that 25,000 is on the low side.

The biggest issue is cost, we paid in the region of 6,000 Baht per person, your average Thai simply cannot afford this.

I agree. Instead of going to a local supermarket, or spreading the load between different food outlets, people will have to congregate at one or more food banks.  Yes, that sounds logical, to an idiot.

I don’t understand this article says there’s already a curfew so I’m guessing that’s just Bangkok or Pattaya because up here there’s no curfew nor have I heard of one anywhere else except reading this.

All this and we are still expected to gather at the Petri dish that is the immigration office
