Governors put on alert for tougher measures to contain Covid-19

According to one newspaper in Bangkok it is the entire country but I don’t think they’re enforcing it because deliveries are still getting made late at night. Although it is better to order during the day before 8PM. Correction I don’t think they’re enforcing it up here. I don’t know about other cities though.

In the part of Thai. there I live there is no sign  of the virus, during the day Thais are working as usual, but going home at 6 oc like good people, most non workers are staying home as much as they can, but they are not taking much notice of the news (as in all must die) like the global warming <deleted> of (all must die) I hope they keep their happy attitude, oh and whiskey is still a good drink as is the home brew, I am doing my bit I have not been out of the house for 2 weeks my wife and daughter are doing the food shopping and paying bills other than that they are staying home

They have to make people better understand the need to combat the virus, such as by convincing people to stay at home and avoid any kind of travel.

Don't like knocking the 7 day funerals, there was one in our soi many people attending and cars from many other provinces places, what will they do about that.

If any of them are in a incubation period of C19 surely funeral should be put on hold.

What is it about lying numbers you dont get? Not accurate tests, deaths and cases is all the same.

Totally controlled by the people on top.Just like every other number put out in public.

That is just how this country is working.

It is much easier to manipulate the number of cases than the number of deaths.

Cases are just statistics, but deaths are real people, with real families, some of which at least will talk.

Most of Thailand is like a big village, or rather a network of small villages, where gossip travel at light speed...

I looked it up and it is just Bangkok currently for the curfew I expect it to be imposed on the whole country potentially.

You obviously did not look in the right place ....it's nationwide but some provinces have also imposed stricter or extra rules, Chonburi, Phuket, Krabi, phangna provinces for a start. I cannot link to the current story in the Bangkok Post but you could try reading that, or "Richard Barrow in Thailand" on facebook, he is pretty good at keeping up with the latest news.

How can you tell if there are no covid19 cases?Just curious as how you can tell by just looking or if you have access to medical records?

What I meant was that when I ask the nurses and Specialists if they have any in-patients being treated for CV the answer is none.

I think it's reasonable to say many of us live within 2 km of a Wat, where cremations take place. One of my close neighbors provides music for the homes of bereaved families and he usually has about 1 or 2 'bookings' a week. I can honestly say he's not worked for about 2 weeks and neither have I heard or seen any form of funeral/cremation/wake over this period.

So, in my area there have been no Covid 19 related deaths recently, but if there have been then the bodies are being disposed of in secret.

Also the local 'grapevine' is totally devoid of any Covid 19 news, unlike when someone had died from HIV. This type of news spreads very quickly in a small township, but there has been no mention of it here.

I hope this situation continues and isn't the 'lull before the storm'!

I'd be interested to know if any TV readers have actually seen videos on youtube, twitter or whatever of any thai hospitals supposedly riddled with corona patients. I have lots of Thai friends posting how angry they are , but yet to see a post of a hospital

I agree on the gossip part but people in Isan have no clue on what is going on In the other districts.1 or 2 villages next to them is basically all they know about life outside their own.

Not any hospital - sick patients suspected to have COVID19 are triaged to specialized locations. It's actually very sensible thing to do, but also means you won't see sick people in the aisles by going to Samitivej.

24hr curfew will just cause panic buying and hoarding. Not to mention some people don't have the money to buy 10+ day's worth of food in one go, or the shops shelves will be emptied before they get there... Government should stagger the curfew instead of doing a blanket 24hr one. Divide BKK into 4 zones. each zone gets a 4hr window per day to go shop. That's 16hrs to work with, 8hrs of blanket curfew but each zone will be in effective 20hrs curfew. At least that should reduce crowding in BKK. Over crowding will surely happen if they announce a 24hr curfew as people do the mad rush to stock up for the curfew...

In our small village the last 2 death announcements by the village chief, first in about 3 weeks, were for people working in Kanchanaburi and Bangkok, but originally from the village. No commital as to cause of death (which he usually does) but they were to be cremated at the closest wat to the hospital immediately. This is very unusual as the locals usually wait to hold the funeral when the body returns to the village. No one can travel to attend either. Very strange.

Similarly my brother in law is also resposible for providing music etc for all local events, nothing for 2 weeks as events now cancelled, except local funerals (but none for 3 weeks or so).

Bt there is always one true village idiot, as one turned up today to ask for a tambon baan (house blessing) tomorrow. He argued the toss and seemed oblivious to why he was being refused. Brother in law point blank refused, told him to go talk to the poo yai.

Alternatively, they are getting sick through other routes, like orally through contaminated hands. Since that route of infection leads to the gastrointestinal tract and not the respiratory tract, it may take longer to develop respiratory symptoms and they could be milder too (because it is harder for the virus to get there from the gastrointestinal tract and there’s more time for the body to mount an immune response). Obviously this is all purely my speculation without much scientIfic evidence to back it up.

Note to self: "Stop picking my nose".

Even the number of cases is hard to manipulate. If Thailand was having a massive crisis hospitals would be overflowing and people would be flooding the hospitals for care. This weekend I drove by three hospitals and the parking lots were pretty much empty. If hospitals were overflowing then we would know about it on social medias as Thais are addicted to Facebook. the government could not hide it, like it would not be able to hide mass deaths either. If there mass deaths, again, we'd learn about it on Facebook.

While the numbers we are getting from the government may be understated, I do not think they are understate by much.

tell me the steps involved to record death rate

note - people reporting ill are most likely sent home to isolate and that's the end of it live or die - so explain how Thailand is measuring the mortality rate for CV-19

That is a question few of us can answer, however, it would become increasingly obvious if people were dying in the same percentages as Europe, in this modern age it is impossible to hide everything, social media would be buzzing with it, people that you and I know would be affected by it, or know somebody that is.

I've no doubt that the actual number of deaths is higher than the official number, but would almost guarantee that is nothing close to Europe, an additional 700+ deaths a day would be hard, no impossible, to hide.

With a population of almost 69.5 million people living in Thailand 25,000 tests shows there’s not being enough done to prevent the virus. Was reading facts from W.H.O ( world health organization ) and C.D.C ( centre for disease and control ) saying that by wearing face masks is pointless unless your caring for a sick relative.

Yet Thailand insist we wear them if not we can be fined. We need more clarity and less scaremongering ( stay safe people ????

It kind of sounds like a 24 hr. Lockdown including grocery since they are suggesting food bank locations.  I can see that part of it being a big problem.

The food banks are likely intended for people who now cannot work and therefore have no income

Allow the sale of hydroxchloroquine and azithromycin in pharmacies! Hydroxychloroqune is a "OLD" and trusted anti Malaria medicine, its safe/cheap, unless your massively obese and have a heart problem. Its a prophylactic, think condom you sex crazed ex pats, ie; it protects you from catching COVID-19. USA is starting to realize this!!! France, Italy, South Korea and supposedly China are now using this stuff and it's working.

Thai Gov, let us buy it, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain! Your infected and death figures are thankfully very low. Improve on that with HydroxC.

WHO and everyone has already backtracked on that. Everyone should be wearing face masks

As an epidemiologist, you clearly have no concept of proper clinical trials. Small samples with inconsistent results show no endorsement of what you are saying. Is it worth taking? If you don't have any health issues, yeah. There's nothing to lose, but don't have high expectations. You can be sure it's being used enormously in many countries, especially in the US after the President pushed it, but are you seeing a dramatic drop off in cases and deaths? Sadly, no ????

Even when they find a miracle drug, it'll be months before sufficient quantities can be produced. I'm just trying to isolate and buy time.

there is no way to hide or deny when the outbreak happans.

the hospitals are just full of people coughing and acctually dying everywhere.

people cough blood and fall dead in the streets, shops, offices.

this is happaning right now in new york.

this is what happaned in wuhan china (only when it allready happaned,

the chinese governemt started to act).

and this is NOT happaning in thailand.

maybe the weather? maybe the good spirits? maybe another lighter mutation

of the virus?

let's just hope and pray it will stay this way, and go away in may.

My thoughts too. Keeping the new cases at not much over 100 a days seems nothing short of miraculous seeing as the powers that be just stood like rabbits caught in the head lights doing nothing during the critical warning stages and then precipitated the mass exoduses from cities to the countryside.

I assume significant under reporting due both to lack of testing and the natural propensity to  make people believe things are better than they are until they are not. But they will not be able to conceal exponential growth, as in Italy, Spain, New York or even London, if it occurs because hospitals will be overwhelmed and bodies will be piling up.

Could it be the warm weather, the fact that BCG vaccinations are still routine in Thailand?  We can but hope.

Or do they know something very nasty that they are not sharing with us?
