This is all City centric. Reading the Bangkok post, you would think that the world starts and ends in Bangkok, same for BBC news and London. or CNN and New York, Yes, they have more people and therefore more instances of infection, but lets at least have a bit of balance and report what the rest of humanity is going through, or not. Around me, in this semi rural location,. life has not changed one jot, except that most people are wearing masks, including me. Plenty of market stalls open and thriving, lots of stuff in the shops.

IMHO that is counter productive to social distancing, as less opening hours simply means more people in the shop at any one time, reducing the entrance means everybody has to funnel through one point. there is also the back car park entrance

I go to a Hospital in Bangkok twice a week for ongoing Physio Treatment. For the last 4 weeks the Hospital has become emptier and emptier. No CV cases at all. They are ticking over and sent specialist staff home. Too much scare mongering going on typical TV style. It was obvious that as the cities emptied the virus would go to the countryside where the locals carry on as normal in some cases. They need to control the spread of the virus in these places before they can even consider opening up the cities again or even let tourists back into the country, which will see a mass re-population of the cities from the countryside.

Do you actually believe the test numbers, and results, being released by the Thai government? 1

I declined and went to Villa little walk instead.

A look at Europe or America shows that the infection rates and the number of deaths per hundred thousand inhabitants is incomparably higher than here in Thailand. In addition, the pandemic in south east asian countries has been managed very well to this day. They are not accurate, i'd imagine if 1,000 reported = 10,000 real, its been spreading in Thailand since the very early days, but has been neither too hot, nor too cold, (OR DRY), my perception is, Thailand is a sweet spot, it continues to spread, but you see less real impact (deaths, serious cases), also the locals are very 'hardy', i know three builders (left for their home province) were down with it, they just carried on like normal, whilst spluttering away behind their makeshift masks, and this was two weeks ago. Signs at those shelf positions clearly stating what each person is allowed to buy. Popular Post Saltire 1,371
Worrying news from the wife this morning. Small village, 1 hour from nearest supply town. It seems 2 of our neighbours left home at 5 am for the trip to buy rice. Getting there early the 2 rice shops were already queued outside. When they opened it was a mad rush. The shops struggled to cope. Each neighbour bought 10 x 45Kg bags of rice each, a ridiculous amount but highlighting the real fear of food supplies being hampered in the future. I'd not be surrised if we went to buy some now they would be sold out. Doesn't help the situation. Stores shouldl have limited bags per customer, but I guess it's the usual make money today, don't think about tomorrow. Worrying. Edited April 6, 2020 by Saltire 2
AussieinThaiJim 48
It takes 4 to 6 week from contracting the corona virus to death! Wait for the numbers of deaths to go up! assymtamatic carriers now estimated to be greater than 20%. (WHO) A controlled lockdown will be necessary to stem the growth ! Stay home, when out wear a mask, spray everything with alcohol! Follow the rules
