Across the border in Malaysia you can hookah day and night while drinking Arab Tea.   Another nail in the coffin for Thai tourism.  Thais are a fun people, but Thailand is no longer.

I'm always surprised by how many crimes in Thailand these days involve French people. When you hear about a guy beating up a ladyboy, or stealing from a shop, or getting into fights, it is very often a Frenchman.

I remember traveling in France as a young teenager and they always seemed so cultured, so sophisticated.

It is mystifying that such a dignified people, with such a glorious history, seem to have descended into barbarism.

Glorious history - would that be fighting all over Europe for varying reasons at different times or imposing dictatorial colonial regimes like other "first world nations" did/do?

Whats the problem with Hookah's in Thailand? Is it not paying import tax or duty on the tobacco?

Yep there's no way set up to collect duty on the  tobacco thats the main problem plus now the connection with Muslims arabs

On Arrival/transfer  from Cairo I Opened one on if not the first sheesha cafe outside BKKS Arab quarter in 2001 tobacco used to be brought on incoming Egyptian flights Always very popular with Thais and foreigners alike sadly "associated running ahem costs" put us out of business.

Got a couple of lovely ones for personal use at home

Yes haha real "French" names, lol, all immigrants or from immigrant parents from Algeria and Morroco...

Possibly born in France, or may well be 3rd generation French.

The reason is simple. The Thai tobacco industry needs to be protected, and will do anything to curb competition from outside. That's also the reason why they banned E-cigarettes.

"The Thai tobacco industry needs to be protected, and will do anything to curb competition from outside".

Really?  They're that desperate, are they?  That must be why Thailand banned the import of all brands that compete with their brands here, yes?

"That's also the reason why they banned E-cigarettes".

I doubt it; what threat are a few e-fags to the Thai tobacco industry, exactly?
