US firm denies masks for Germany seized in Bangkok

Berlin's minister of the Interior has re-iterated his accusations against the US in the Tagesspiegel today.

Obviously he has solid information of US involvement, as evidenced by the fact that the masks arrived in the US.

Diverted... apparently by the German national who appears to have been acting as the broker. Bottom line: it was premature to blame Trump. There are what appear to be credible stories, but saying different things.

No sales company diverts the products it sold to one client to another, unless there is unusual pressure applied to do so.

We have seen Trump tweet how he was upset  that 3M is selling masks to other countries. We saw how he then used extraordinary moves to try and force 3M to restrict sales of masks to Canada and Latin America.

We heard from France and Brazil that in one instance 23 planes arrived in China and masks disappeared.

The investigation is still ongoing but it's pretty clear what happened.

Obviously the US embassy in Berlin and Paris, as well as 3M, will deny the theft. Hardly a surprise they say different things. To admit what they did would be highly embarassing. They're not going to say "Yes, we appropriated by underhand means masks that were already paid for in Bangkok, because we don't care if you die". Unlikely isn't it?

So what if it landed in the US? The question is WHY? It appears the German who brokered the deal screwed you and sent it somewhere else.

As for lying? It appears the version posted by the moderators here is the lie. But I understand why you're a bit testy. You posted how Germans don't lie. Well, it appears the German who arranged the sale to his countrymen lied.

At this point, it appears Trump is irrelevant.

I don't think he lied.

What do we know. He said that the US government directive was made and the plane was diverted to the US.

That is most likely what happened.

Of course the US embassy then issued a denial.

The spokesman for Belin's interior ministry said "We acknowledge the denail, but we stand by the substance of what we said".

In other words, "We're not as stupid as N-TV and you can say whatever you like, we know what happened".

It's completely irrelevant what nationality the middleman had. He could have been from Iran, Burma or New Zeland.

No businessman takes a decision like this unless something very unusual has happened.

What most likely happened was that he received a phone all from a pleasant sounding man who said he worked for the US government and they need to make sure those masks arrive in the us one way or the other.

That middleman, once he heard the US government were involved, obviously thought of his own safety. Hardly surprising.

Ok, so because he was German it suddenly doesn't matter what nationality he was - mein gott!

This story popped up yesterday and reminded me how honest you Germans are - Germans don't lie you say..?

The nationality is absolutely relevant, given your claim Germans don't lie. Did the German broker lie to his clients? Yes or no?

Note is is YOU who made nationality an issue with your own words debating this very issue.

YOU said Germans don't lie. The German media article should thus be taken as gospel by you. You are now telling a different tale events. Someone is lying. Either the German media source or you. It's really that simple. And again, YOU made this an issue when YOU said Germans don't lie. Now it's time to show us you're correct with honest answers to honest questions.

Makes perfect sense. The German broker will obviously fold and go with the script. What's he going to do? Double down and commit to saying he sold out his own country? Go against the wishes of his own government? Not a smart move. Hopefully, government officials will forgive him for telling the truth at first.

BUT assuming this update is, legal action should be brought against the United States government. Surely there are laws that prevent or retaliate for such things occurring.
