So, will you love Thailand even more when your penthouse condo in Bangkok is worth 1/8th the cost of the likes of San Francisco, or N.Y. City How about 1/16th ???? I tend not to allow negative thoughts enter my mind for too long as I have to counter them and remind myself that I am in a different place where things are very different, or relaxed for a better word, too relaxed, but like I said, different place, and what I cannot control, is something I got used to really quick, I mean in Australia if someone lite up, you dialed a number, and it was sorted, here well, you know what I mean. It don't believe it has changed a lot since I first came here in 2005, but when you do live here, almost 5 years now, I would say you notice things more, like the "democratically" previously caretaker military government taking over the country, which in my opinion should never have happened. The above said I live in a rural area in a big comfortable house (my world), I have all the comforts I want and neighbors not to close to me, yet close enough, so that they don't bother me with noise etc etc. I suppose the biggest negative is the burning of rice and sugarcane fields, literally no police force out on the roads, I could go on and on and on, but to be perfectly honest, we all have choices to go back if we don't like it, so it's either live with it or go back, now going back would impact on my lifestyle, as Thailand Ryan literally said, he paid 1/4 for his penthouse in BKK, well I paid what it would cost to build a double width brick lock up garage back in Oz for my 320 square metre 6 bed 3 bath house, $60k, about a $900k build in Oz, then you would need the land to build it on, add another $900k so you would be working like the rest of them back home to pay it off as opposed to be sitting in it and enjoying it, that said I would rather not work 5 or 6/7th of my life to pay for the roof over my head, I would rather do what I have been doing for the last 5 years, i.e. living in debt free house and investing my money from the sale proceeds of my house back in Sydney earn me tax free dollars to survive here for a long long long time. The above said, If I ever won the lottery, Australia would be my preferred, but at the current cost of living standards, I wonder how people do it, seriously, it's got to give, sooner or Nice post thanks, we have built a house off rama2 in samut sakhon near mahachai my best mate visited last year and said what the <deleted> were you thinking. But i love it here i love the nitty gritty of this area I love being close to Bangkok. Regarding law enforcement on the roads the stats say it all horrendous my dear old mum nearly fainted when I told her the stats and that I just bought a new scooter. I love Australia so much to offer were in adelaide very different market to Sydney real estate still very cheap and realistic ownership. The old adage is to "never invest more than you can afford to loose", and so I can walk at anytime really. Loosing a house, if it happens is not the end of the world, just means a change in my daily life and relocating to wherever else I want to go. The only thing I would miss, is running in Lumpini Park. Markets always fluctuates. Guess I was lucky with my investments........

Popular Post rumak
After more than one try, I hit the lottery and now live with someone almost 24/7. She loves to cook, do outdoor things (sports and garden) ...... and NEVER complains . I probably do that enough for two 55 So I love being with a good companion who happens to be Thai. And as Ken says, in general I find Thai people to be a lot more joyful than wealthier westerners. Has helped me a lot being around calm and friendly people. Note: I do not live in a tourist area 3

Good on you, it must hurt your sensibilities to know someone actually enjoys living in Bangkok. Call it what you will, you can always tell those that are not happy in life by trying to force there own beliefs and agenda's on others.......Plenty of good restaurants here, and at the end of the day, I could care less what anyone else thinks. I fell in love with LOS for the girls and the beaches and that I could combine the two for my holidays. By the time it was over for me it was only for the excellent hotel I lived in for a small amount of money in comparison to back 'ome. The immigration got progressively worse over the years to the point I hated going anywhere near them, but that was the worst of it, though the nice beaches vanished rapidly this century under concrete. It's definitely not the same country that I discovered back in the day, and I doubt I'd fall in love with it now.

I am sorry to hear of your negative experience. Easy for many of as to get involved with the wrong crowd , I mean you get on a plane, you come to Thailand , what do you do? you go to a tourist area (you are a tourist) and you go to a bar, you meet a pretty little thing, you get along. have a good time, and there you are. Nothing wrong with that, many of these girls are good people in difficult situations, but you need to understand that they Got in this situations because they might not come from the best family situations. But that's not Thailand. It is simply the thailand many of as know. There is another thiland out there. I am no different from the people I describe above, but I got lucky. I met my now wife at a work environment. Initially she wanted nothing to do with me but i wore he down. . Her Family were not rich, Father was a worker for the water department, mother run a small convenience store in their village in Khon kaen, Both hard working honest people. Aunts and uncles the same. They worked hard, provided for their family, and put both of their girls through University. They really were not thrilled when I showed up with their daughter, I am sure they were looking forward to their daughter marrying a nice Thai man that would be a good fit in their family. In time they got to know me and love me just as much as their daughter, some times perhaps more ,because my wife can be difficult at times. Not once did anyone ask me for money, an uncle asked my wife ones. He asked the wrong person . Wife is tight with the money, she quickly shot him down. I might have being an easier mark. If anything they have helped us. Married eleven years now, and even though we own houses both in the US and Thailand. when I say we are going home I mean Thailand. Sadly both my MIL and FIL passed away with in a year from each other a couple of years ago. I miss their smiling faces greeting us at the airport, and how they made me welcome in their house every time we went there. I miss all of us piling up in the car and going to the dam . We always went everywhere together. Today is a sad day for us, It is MIL's B-day, she passed away less than a year ago. Wife cut white roses from our garden and put them under her mom's picture. Stuck in the US with this virus , can't wait for it to be over so I can come home. Edited April 8, 2020 by sirineou typo

My life is full of just that LIFE, I can do as I please, albeit there is that pesky thing called immigration. Jealousy comes in all colors, life is full of thorns, the glass is always half full, for each person the sky is a different color of blue, there may be haze, or smog, but I grew up in Los Angeles, California, smog and air pollution are a way of life, and I deal with it the way I always have, and that is accepting what I can not change and enjoying life to the fullest. So now kind sir, and I use that term loosely, enjoy your life wherever you are, and may be, and quit trying to instill you values, and way of life onto others..... You have the best of both worlds, living 6 months in Sydney & 6 months in Thailand, I would have done the same but with kids its a little difficult ???? Might move back to Sydney when the boys finish college in 3 years so they can find some work and contribute to the costs there, however just the thought of being next door to people and in a small place to rent, anything from $600 upwards per week would be a waste in my opinion, and I wouldn't dare think about buying back into the market as I think it has a long way to go before it bottoms, albeit everyone else will tell you its on the up. Maybe invest in a family business ?
Popular Post Peterw42
The thread asks "what do you love about Thailand" It appears that you are not actually allowed to like anything about Thailand. If you do like aspects of living in Thailand, you need to be informed why you shouldn't like those things, shown the error off your ways.. It appears that its not enough just to dislike most aspects of Thailand, but its also a duty to convince others why they also should not like Thailand. People need to have a long hard look at themselves when they see a thread about liking Thailand and automatically want to turn it into a thread about whats wrong with Thailand, and tell anyone who likes Thailand the error of their ways. 6
