Popular Post Sjoerd
Now I am living 15 km outside Surin at a home (with 1 ray ground) in a small village around the ricefields. Yesterday a doctor from the local hospital (anamay) came to tell me that I should stay at my home until 15 April, because there had someone died in Prasat and there are now 6 patients at Surin Hospital. Even outside my home, in my ground, I should wear a mask. If I need some food I can go to the shop. When entering or leaving the city they will check temperature and the "poeyaj bahn" has to be ok with my reason why I want to go outside the city. I told him that the 24 hours curfew was not introduced yet and I not had the idea to wear a mask in my ground; all the people in the city also not wear in their ground. On my question of official documents he just could show an older document concerning the curfew and wearing a mask at street. He just told that he came to warn me about the new city rule and we all not want to spread the virus... Now I feel uncomfortable, as locked..without reason (by law).. Even cannot visit some friend in a safe way somewhere.. I JUST WONDER IF ANYBODY HAD ABOUT THE SAME STORY IN HIS CITY?? 4 3

Popular Post JayBird
He may be privy to possible changes coming, and is giving you a subtle heads up. He may also know about possible negative views towards foreigners without mask, and may be suggesting that you wear outside of house because of eyes watching. 11

About the mask it is probably as you tell. Just remain unhappy to be locked at home. The strange thing is, he told 3 times just until 15 April.. I know the best is stay at home, but sometimes like to just drive around little bit or visit 1 friend near..

The topic is why someone can lock me at home 24 hours until 15 April without reason; the curfew is 8 hours. Ofcourse I am aware of all risks and live very careful. (And I live alone because the wife died in a bad way by accident..I not choosed for this way of life). Thanks for reply.

The doctor is trying to protect you. These restrictions are not all over Thailand, certainly not in the Chiang Rai area. If there is a lockdown in your area, it is probably because it has become a hotspot for COVID-19. If you are elderly, you are even more at risk. Try to avoid becoming a stubborn old goat. 16

Already 58....normal had happy life here..You just base your opinion upon me on the letters in this topic; is ok. The topic: If it had become a hotspot with a lockdown I not had problem at all. I just wonder why told only me yesterday have to stay at home and not told other people near me.As I asked in the first post today. The mask at home I can understand already. If you are a foreigner living alone in the boonies, you will be under suspicion regardless of the fact that you may have been in your home near Surin when the virus was first identified. There's no doubt some well-meaning local busybody has cherry-picked the bits from the news that they chose to hear regarding foreigners, they complained to the doctor about 'the farang' and the doctor is trying to keep the village peace. You aren't banned (as the busybody would like) but simply advised to restrict your travel. For example, I live in Udon city but after the the PM ordered provincial governor's to make contingency plans for a more extensive curfew, we decided to take four bags of our rice out to the mill. The mill is in a village maybe 15 km distant, my brother-in-law lives there and my wife owns some land there. Several years ago, I was the token farang at a local temple ceremony and invited to perform a significant bit of a ceremony. The villagers are friendly, know my wife, family and me. However, when we arrived 'from the city', they looked upon us with suspicion as they sat under their shade tree, mask-less and shoulder to shoulder. We put on our masks and got out of the truck and it was all smiles. We delivered the rice, returning several hours later to collect it, wearing masks regardless of the fact that nobody in the village was. Thus their cocoon of somewhat false security was protected. Their idea of social isolation isn't the same as government edicts. If you are a Thai from the village and they see you every day, you are OK. Even if you are a relative who arrived in the village from Bangkok, you are probably OK. Unfortunately, as the token farang, you are their bogeyman at the moment. Just wear the mask and try and refrain from traveling especially if it is to visit another foreigner. They only have a basic notion of clusters inasmuch that they probably think they are uniquely foreign which we know is totally wrong. Stay safe. Please understand that you would be putting your friend in a terrible position. We have all been asked to make a sacrifice. You are in country of 70 million people and only 2,000 ventilators. The best thing you can do to protect the people you normally see in your day-to-day life, to keep tragedy away from their families, is to stay at home, no exceptions. It won't be forever, just hang tight for a few months and find your companionship online. Edited April 8, 2020 by donnacha
