An Indian businessman and marathon runner living in Ban Chang, Rayong, went to the police claiming that a Thai man had ripped him off on Facebook with the promise of a great pair of Nikes.

They were the much sought after "Vaporfly" edition.

Jidendra K., 40, was all in a tizzy when he saw the ad on the "Infinity" page for a pair of the footwear. He just had to have them. Especially that color.

So he contacted Nattawut. D. who said, "Sure, I can get you a pair for 7,000 baht".

Excitement welled as the pair engaged in some inter-Asian cyber haggling.

The upshot was an agreement to send 6,090 baht.

This was back in January.

Trouble was, Nattawut then said Jirendra had to be patient. It was going to be up to 25 for delivery.

Jirendra waited and waited, waited for those prized Nike's to wing their way into his home.

The Indian man who has been in Thailand for five years runs not just a business but runs in every marathon the kingdom has to offer.

Naew Na even named amateur marathon running as one of his jobs.

When 25 days had passed Jirendra got anxious. Then the Facebook page blocked him.

Then the penny dropped. Or maybe it was a rupee.

Thailand finest are investigating.
