webfact
Chiang Mai: Thais hit hard as queue for free food goes round the moat Picture: Sanook Sanook reported that these Covid-19 pandemic times were disastrous for many Thais and not least of all those living in Chiang Mai in the north of the country. As evidence of the desperation of the jobless and people with no savings, they published pictures of a queue stretching two kilometers around the moat in the area of the Chinese consulate. Hundreds of people had got in line for handouts of rice, dried goods, oil, eggs, water and ready made meals. Picture: Sanook Monchai, 43, was the organizer of the charity after getting together with people on Facebook who helped garner donations. This was the sixth day of handouts, he said, and it was costing 20,000 baht a day to keep the people fed. More and more people were coming with each passing day, he said. Free food being dished out all over the place, but why is it volunteers putting their time and money up, when the government who should be taking the lead are nowhere to be seen? 46 3

And a good opportunity to catch the virus from someone standing close (not social distancing) to them as well .

Ridiculous. The government cannot be responsible for everything, everyplace in the world. Many western countries including the US, have food banks and charities with volunteers that rely on sources other then the government to fund them and help people in need of food. https://www.barrons.com/articles/jeff-bezos-donates-100-million-to-feeding-america-01585936239 Bezos gave 100 million and many others made big donations. Popular Post ThailandRyan
The Government could care less. I am still waiting on the caravan of vehicles with food at Government prices. Went for my morning run and ran by BNH hospital, looked busy already at 8 am. Construction zone down the street packed with workers and Silom jammed with people on the sidewalks and the Sala Daeng BTS very busy, something must have kicked loose because storefronts selling goods were still closed but the sidewalk in front was filled with whatever they sell inside and people were busy buying food and such. I realize this is Friday morning, but all week long at the same time it has been very minimal with foot traffic. Maybe they are stocking up for the weekend. I asked my GF if she had heard anything on her Facebook pages, and she said the only thing she saw is more thefts at houses that even have security systems in place. 2
Popular Post cmsally
At these queues people are told about social distancing. If you see people in "clumps" they have normally come together. The problem now is the amount of people turning up, maybe an average queue time of 2hrs or so. At the start of these "handouts" not so many people but now more people becoming desperate. The big problem is how long the funding can go on, donations are from small businesses/people/business people of Chiang Mai. If this continues into next month can the donations keep coming?

Popular Post clokwise
Meanwhile, Chiang Mai's favorite politician is building a hi-tech supermarket in Dubai where you shop and never have to leave your car. You'd think he would want to be helping out his hometown, but actually if you really think about it, it's no surprise he's not. 2 2

ThailandRyan
At least people are donating to help feed the folks who are down on there luck in Chiang Mai. I have donated as well to assist, but in the US there is just one millionaire politician who needs to boast about her daily routine and to me is the New Marie Antoinette. ‘LET THEM EAT ICE CREAM’: Multi-Millionaire Nanci Pelosi Shows Off Freezer Full Of Gourmet Ice Cream As Thousands Line Up At Food Banks. $14 dollar pints she eats from specialty gourmet stores. Just think if the top brass here did the same thing, which is kind of what has been done anyway with the meager handouts...
