Popular Post Jonathan Fairfield
Happy Food Koh Phangan: Community-based initiative distributes free food to those in need Koh Phangan and other islands are heavily reliant on tourism, which has come to a complete standstill. Many have become unemployed. Many people are unable to return to their home countries. Koh Phangan: 33000 Thais (many from other parts of Thailand), about 5000 Asian guest workers and around 5000 visitors from all over the world. In Koh Phangan, several initiatives have been set up around the island to distribute food. We estimate there have been 2500 meals given out per day for the last week. The community has come together as Thai, Myanmar, and people from all countries are working together to cook, fundraise, and hand out basic food and necessities to those who need it. While there are currently no known COVID19 cases on the island, social distancing and safety measures are being observed. Preparing to set up measures in case this situation lasts for many more months. These projects are being financed by locals as well as friends of the island from all over the world.
