Some 270 foreign tourists stranded on Phi Phi Island were screened for Covid-19 by Krabi provincial authorities on Monday (April 27).

Deputy Krabi governor Somkuan Kanngern, who led the screening team, said the effort was part of proactive measures to curb transmissions. The team also met with islanders and local business operators to evaluate possible risks should restrictions be lifted in Krabi.

Taking note of what? Being looked after on the island? Being screened for the virus? What is wrong with that?

if I was on the island I would demand that everyone is screened - what is the point of screening only foreigners - what exactly does it achieve - are they charging them for the pleasure - now that would make sense

Did they think to check the Thais too?

I'd like to know more on this incident.

How long have these foreigners been on Phi Phi Island I wonder?

Did they just arrive from elsewhere or has the island been in 'lockdown' for weeks?

Phi Phi has been in lockdown since 4 April 2020, with a curfew starting at 5.00 pm.

Speaking here from Koh Phi Phi. About 2 weeks ago all foreigners were temperature tested. Then the following week all Thais were temperature tested.

Yesterday 200 people were swab tested. Of those 50 were foreigners and 150 Thais.

There are 270 foreigners on the island which is about the only detail that the news article got correct. The last ferry left Phi Phi in the first week of April. So no new arrivals.
