Popular Post webfact 79,055
Chinese tourists set to return to Chiang Mai in July, tourism chief predicts Picture: Chiang Mai News The Chinese will be happily flooding back to Thailand come July, predicts tourism chief The head of the Chiang Mai tourism business association Noppadol Jariphak told local media that the Chinese were ready to come back to Thailand in droves. Noppadol said that Thailand is a wonderful place for tourism for Chinese and other nationalities. They also appreciate that Thailand has top notch health services as proved during the Covid-19 crisis, he said. Asked by Chiang Mai News about fears of a renewed spread of the virus Noppadol said that new "quality" measures would be in place to prevent that. Picture: Chiang Mai News He predicted that by July the Chinese would start coming back - it may be a trickle at first but it would soon be a flood. And not before time. He reckoned that the crisis has caused 5 billion baht of losses in the Chiang Mai tourism sector with hundreds of thousands of people directly affected. Low cost airlines will start flying in May, he said, a good first step that will allow Thai domestic tourism first. Picture: Chiang Mai News Then the Chinese would be back. Perhaps not in the same numbers before the pandemic started but it will soon recover. The media went with a headline suggesting that when Thailand is ready the Chinese will be back immediately. Popular Post spidermike007 37,228
What can one even say? Tourism is not returning to Thailand anytime soon. If you think about it, the group that comprised perhaps 60% of all arrivals (lower to middle income Chinese and Indians) are the ones who have been hardest hit by this idiotic worldwide economic shutdown. Tourism in Thailand will never recover to even close to it's former levels, and that leaves millions out of work. Most countries will still be required to have Covid letters, as the virus is still raging in many countries. And some countries will not issue that letter (impossible to get in the US). Plus, will the mandatory health insurance still be required? Will it be even stricter than before? And just what are people returning to, or coming to? Will everything be open? How about nightlife? There are so many unanswered questions, it boggles the mind. One thing is for certain. Thailand will be feeling the effects of this for a very, very long time. So will the rest of the world. And rosy projections are just that. They are based on less than zero. 38

I doubt they will be allowing incoming tourists before everything is open again, including nightlife. When they do they'll probably ease up the requirements as very few tourists would go through those hoops. Many countries will have those letters available by June-July. My guess is that's when they'll start allowing some tourists in. Masses? nope, lol.

The decision makers in Thailand are Sino-Thai families so the Chinese will be welcomed with open arms. No doubt Chinese will get exemption from health insurance, CV19 free certification as they are coming from a low risk area... 16 4
