The government has warned people travelling to other provinces to follow the local restrictions to prevent the spread of Covid-19, Deputy Government Spokesperson Traisulee Traisoranakul said on Saturday (May 2).

She said the government was concerned about people’s health while travelling to other provinces during the long holiday weekend in the beginning of May.

“Therefore, we would like to ask people who travel to other provinces to follow the restrictions in each province,” she said.

“People returning to their hometowns must stay in their residence and refrain from gatherings.”

She added that Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, acting as director of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), was not in favour of people travelling to other provinces if it were not necessary, as it may spread the virus.

“The government wants people to take a rest during the long holidays in May, while the CCSA would take approximately 14 days to consider easing lockdown measures,” she added.

“We would be able to return to normal life if everyone works together to contain the spread of Covid-19, otherwise we would face difficulties for a long time.”

Sorry, that went out the window the same moment that alcohol are again available from today.

Thai people lost their Songkran, been out of work and out of money. You can bet your last satang that alcohol fuelled parties are going on around the country, from today.

Long weekend + alcohol ban lifted ....... So much for planning.

OK, this applicable to Bangkok districts and then there appears to be some confusion.

However, I do recall that whilst the nationwide ban has been lifted, local governors retain the authority to impose bans on their districts and provinces as they see fit.

Nakhon Thanom announced an extension of the ban a few days ago. We can expect to see a lot of traffic on route 22 later today with booze hunters descending on Sakon Nakhon.

Each province has its own restrictions. Lot of confusion, frustration and anger among a lot of Thai.

This is one of the biggest problems IMO, is that the governor of each province can set his own rules, not sure how that makes any sense at all?

HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa!

Telling Thai people day after day after day that there is effectively no (6 cases here while millions all over the world elsewhere [except China, of course]) C-19, why would they pay attention to a travel restriction?

If what they have been telling us is true, then there probably is very little actual risk here (due to hot weather, all the somtam, or the virus just getting too <deleted> confused by Thais to infect them)...so, it doesn't matter.

If what they have been telling us is not true and lots of infections are happening (despite all the fake social distancing), then, here we go! (Of course, we'll only know about the new increase in infections as well as we have known about the ones that have happened so far.)

Exactly.

There is current thread running re domestic flights to some cities opening up.

Then 5 governors make 14 day isolation rule etc.

Things need to be uniform.

What you are missing here or simply do not know is that alcohol has been available throughout the ban. Also people haven't stopped sitting around in groups alcohol or not. It's the travelling that's the problem. Lot's of people on beaches if that's happening is just as bad as your alcohol fuelled parties. One can't be too simplisitic as there are many variables.

My wife needs to go to her home just outside Sisaket to fix something on the family house. Repair will take one to two days. Local village head says the local rule is people arriving to Sisaket from wherever have to observe a 14-day quarantine unless they bring a health certificate saying they are Covid-19-free. We checked with a local clinic in Ladprao who said sure they could provide such a thing...for only $2,000 B.

Also, in re the post by Marvin1950...when I read "in a surprise turnaround" I almost spit my coffee into my keyboard!

How come we have 'urged', 'warned', 'asked', all in the same article regarding complying with local restrictions.

It implies a cash <cough> donation will fast track quarantine.  In the Land of Scams, anything is possible.

Stocked up with enough beer and wine plus some gin an hour ago to last for months and business with the alcohol section was booming. I just simply though do not trust them and tomorrow there could be a ban, the day after they will be giving free beers at the traffic temperature checks. You simply do not know. Beer the Thai version of loo rolls
