Photo: Eakkapop Thongtub PHUKET: Angry residents in the lockdown areas of Bang Tao have won their preference for “local” administrative officers to be stationed at a checkpoint restricting entry to what provincial health officials have deemed to be a “high-risk area” for the spread of COVID-19. Residents started gathering at the checkpoint in front of the Tesco-Lotus Cherng Talay store at about 6pm yesterday evening (May 2). The villagers massed and called for a change of officers stationed at the checkpoint. The only reason given publicly for the wanted change was that they were “dissatisfied” with the officers currently stationed at the checkpoint. Popular Post Phuketshrew
Great social distancing in what is the epicentre of Covid-19 in Phuket. It's these muppets that put lives at risk in their community and will prolong the lock down for all of us. 7

graemeaylward
OK, so the mob took to the streets of Phuket and won a small victory. But what would happen if a larger number took to the streets of Bangkok in protest about the Government handouts? hmmmmmm???????
brianthainess
Glad to see it was a mass and not a mob. Amen to that TIC

zaZa9
the way I read it , the local cops were too easily convinced to let locals pass through , and the infection rate was not going down , so the 'higher ups' sent in military police , who refused to bend the rules. the Bang Tao locals didnt like that so held their protest , protesting in groups I actually thought illegal. It looked like it may get ugly , so Phu Yai Ban and Or Bor Tors arrived to calm things down ... The upshot looks to be that the local cops will return , but supposedly only if the infections stop because the Bang Tao locals have finally started observing the health rules. The fact that they got 3 NEW cases only the day before and under a stricter regime is totally lost on them. Its idiots like these Bang Tao people who make life hard for everybody Edited May 4, 2020 by zaZa9
