Thai government gets high marks for its handling of coronavirus pandemic

 

 

The majority of respondents to an opinion poll support the Government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the assistance provided to help ease the resulting economic hardships.

 

The Suan Dusit Poll, of Suan Dusit University, sampled the opinions of 1,801 people between April 27th and 30th.

 

When asked about the actions taken to control the spread of COVID-19, the survey showed:

 

• 14-day quarantine for foreign arrivals: 94.18% very satisfied.
• Temporary suspension of in-bound flights: 92.55% very satisfied.
• Monitoring people in quarantine by public health volunteers: 89.23% approved.
• Quarantine and stay at home policy: 88.01% approved.
• Screening of high-risk groups: 87.08% approved.
• Lockdown measures: 85.45% approved.
• Curfew: 85.40% approved.
• Work from home measure: 85.01% approved.

I believe Khun Prayut Chan O Cha did a good job in limiting the infection and transmission rate of the COVID-19 virus. Lockdown had to be as well as other stringent measures.

What date was the first confirmed case in Thailand ?

What date were international arrivals, even from a few high risk countries, banned ?

Do you really think he did a good job ? Or do you think he is a joke leader and just love a good wind up of other TVF members ????

Good job again by Khun Prayut.

He did about the same as many leaders, poorly.   Cambodia has maintained a less than 1% unemployment, low infection rate, allowed a cruise ship to dock at snooky that was turned away by most nations and had free medical care.  cha cha looks better dressed up, so that should count for something.

Where did they find the people to question?

or did they just ask Prayut's staff?

Non democratic countries have had much more success in lowering infection numbers than democratic ones...

 

I also believe genetics and built up immunity helped lower numbers...countries with a lot more diseases, their population seemed to do better than countries that have eradicated many of those diseases...

 

the presence, structure and organization of western style nursing homes created a one foot in the grave scenario in the west....

Nah, it's only to do with indoor/outdoor living.

Those countries where people congregate inside (air-con and/or central heating) have high infection rates.

Those countries where people mainly live in the open air don't.

 

Recirculating air is a bad idea.

Or the figures are fake and they just love controlling their people with draconian powers. Now the west have copied the same lockdowns and they don't work, so something doesn't add up.

One thing I've been thinking about regarding low numbers in SE Asia and it keeps coming back to loss of face and stigma

Even to this day people with AIDS/HIV are treated like lepers

This is also the case with Chinese Flu

People don't want to be tested, don't want to tell anybody they have it and especially wouldn't want locals to know a friend/family member had died of it

They would be treated like pariahs and probably lose friends over it

Therefore they've kept schtum about any possible infection and are more than happy for the local doctor to say their friend/family member had died of a lung infection or pneumonia  

 

Caveat maybe for Bangkok where people are more intelligent and a bit more anonymous

But you can imagine the shame of being infected in the thousands of small villages!

I would venture as far as saying that all countries are cooking their books but to state the lockdowns are not working in Thailand are ludicrous.

Every member of my family back in the UK personally know someone who has or has had the virus.

One of my sisters lives in a cul-de-sac with 14 houses and 3 of those have at least one member of the household who has the virus.

How many people do you know in Thailand who have the virus?

I don't even know anyone in Thailand who knows someone else with the virus.

 

It would be stupid of me to believe that governments don't lie but the fact is that Thailand are not suffering anywhere near as badly as the Western countries where people ignore the restrictions.

Do the measures that have been put in place by the Thai government and to an extent the discipline of Thai citizens have shown in this matter work?

I'm back in the UK now and I don't know anyone who has been confirmed with it, my 87 year mother also doesn't know anyone has tested positive either and no one on my Facebook has mentioned it.

 

The figures in Thailand are dubious to say the least, when I was there 6 weeks ago I didn't know anyone who had it and didn't seem a problem either. The lockdown in Thailand has caused millions of people to lose their jobs with very little government support and when the furlough scheme ends in the UK then millions of people will be unemployed.

Exactly. They've done a superb job of controlling the virus itself, limiting its spread, and for that they should be commended, but on every other measurable metric, they have and are failing miserably. They don't appear to be doing anything to help the people suddenly left without an income, money, and food.

There are a couple of places where you can't hide death. One is in the villages and the other is on TV. Out here in the sticks I have heard the Funeral Fireworks only a couple of times in the past month or so (unlike Jan / Feb when there seemed to be a higher than average number) Whilst on TV I have yet to see 'My mate just died of Corona' which given the number of aged expats in Pattaya etc is a surprise.

As my mentor once said " there sure are alot of experts here" The people are the ones that have endured and should be allowed to return to Normalcy ASAP. It's obvious that the guvmunt wants to get to Zero new cases and have bragging rights ( get that 5th star General). They will start a new round of testing as more prostitutes and overseas workers are repatriated from UAE , India etc this week. Should be special ....

Victoria in Australia with a population 0f 6.3 mil has set out to test 100,000 people in two weeks. Not much less than what Thailand has done in months. I wonder what the figures would be if Thailand actually mass tested and what the responses to this survey would be if the true numbers were known.

So you know nothing of the real situation in Thailand but you try to show off as an expert in the matter.

Six weeks ago the effects of this virus were very different, the situation has changed so much worldwide.

Try doing a bit of research from people on the ground instead of trying to bleat on about a situation that you have no first hand knowledge of.

 

I believe that trying to spread or get people to believe your incorrect facts about this virus equate to you spreading fake news about the virus.

As far as I am aware,  most countries now class this as a crime.

Therefore, please think carefully before peddling your lies.

The real situation hasn't changed much since I was there, seeing as I was there for the last night of the bars being open and the last day of the malls being open, social distancing in the restaurants before they went to take way only. Plus I have 5 friends still in BKK who keep me informed.

 

The facts that millions are unemployed in Thailand is correct and it is also correct that the furlough scheme will end at some point.

 

Yes I'm really scared of the police knocking on my door to arrest me for posting on a forum.

What pathetic rubbish !  A poll asks 1800 Thai people what they think about the handling of the pandemic and the figures say they are satisfied !  The rest of the world thinks completely the opposite. Have a look at South and Western Australia if you want to see good results. Didn't need to do a fixed poll to see good figures. The people made it happen
