China to reform disease prevention system

BEIJING (Reuters) - China will reform its disease prevention and control system to address weaknesses exposed by the coronavirus outbreak, a senior health official said on Saturday.

 

China has been criticised domestically and abroad as being initially slow to react to the epidemic, which first broke out on a large scale in Wuhan. The virus has since spread across the world, infecting almost 4 million people and killing almost a quarter-million from the COVID-19 disease it causes.

 

"This coronavirus epidemic is a big test of our country's governance and governing ability, and it exposed the weak links in how we address major epidemic and public health systems," Li Bin, vice minister of the China National Health Commission, told reporters.

 

The commission intends to build a "centralised and efficient" chain of command and reform, and modernise the disease prevention and control system, he said.

 

The commission also aims to make better use of big data, artificial intelligence and cloud computing to better analyse the disease, trace the virus and distribute resources.

 

He said the commission plans to step up research on core technology, improve medical insurance and better ensure the availability of emergency materials.

 

China has not seen any new deaths from coronavirus for 24 days.

Attempting to fix the problem for future occurrences, the right thing to do.

And yes they were slow to recognize the problem as were many other countries even when aware of what might be coming.

Thailand and probably Vietnam,Cambodia and a few others can thank China for being advised to quickly implement the same measures once the Chinese had realized the scale of the problem.

 

Every country will have to reassess and reform their action responses. The human race has learnt a lot about themselves in the past few months.

Not only is China criticized for the virus, the are criticized for their silencing of doctors and journalists, feeding the WHO trash, and attempting a disinformation campaign on western social media that they themselves ban for their own people. 

 

On top of all that, they are responsible for most animal to human viruses to date. 

 

And way on top of all that, they have wet markets that are built around a billion dollar industry of harvesting wild and exotic animals both legally and illegally, eating them alive/semi cooked/or cooked alive, and give zero craps about addressing this problem. 

 

And if that wasn't enough, they have a cool habit of deep-frying domesticated dogs and cats while they are still alive. 

 

I have NO time for China anymore, and any western nation with any kind of a spine should do everything they can to bring their production back inside their own borders and limit Chinas infiltration into their countries.

Absolutely. You can put as many rules and regulations in place as you like but if they are being ignored and not enforced, what's the point ?

Dribble.  I have a home in China that is directly opposite a wet market.  It is in essence no dirtier or contaminated than any similar market anywhere in Asia.  Their main detraction is the fact that they kill your chicken in front of you instead of keeping it in a freezer.

He's stating the official policy approved by the CCP. There Isn't any Minister expressing personal views (sometimes party faction views, though).

As far as I understand, the broad story is about the central government criticizing the regional or local governments for messing up.

You understand the viruses come from the animals being killed at the market right?  And, the variety of animals.
