A fleeing police sergeant was arrested for allegedly shooting his father, Second Lieutenant Sarawut Phuangphet, 63, at a house in Siranya 4 Village in Lopburi’s Meuang district on Sunday (May 10).

Meaung Lopburi police were alerted to the shooting at 4.20pm. They rushed to the scene, only to find the body of the retired officer on the floor with a gunshot wound to his head and a 9mm bullet casing.

Witnesses reportedly told the police that the shooter was allegedly the deceased’s son, Police Sergeant Theethat Phuangphet, an officer of 904th Battalion King’s Bodyguard. They said they heard a fight between the two before a single gunshot, then they saw Theethat allegedly fleeing the scene in a white Toyota Fortuner with licence plate Phor 9749 Bangkok, heading towards the Lopburi-Khoksamrong Road.

Police immediately radioed the Chaibadan police station to deploy a road block to stop the suspect and eventually arrested him in Chaibadan district as he tried to flee to Saraburi.
