Many people appear to have let their guard down and are disregarding measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 now that restrictions are being slowly eased.

Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), said that though there were just two new confirmed cases on Tuesday (May 12), people should not stop taking precautions as the virus is still alive in the country and the situation in other countries is getting worrisome.

Based on information collected by the CCSA, non-compliance of measures was noticed in 2.7 percent of sites on May 7 and 2.9 percent on May 11.

On May 11, officials inspected 20,091 locations and found that 14,134 had fully complied with prevention measures such as social distancing, wearing of face masks and providing hand-sanitising gel.

The officials also found that while 5,372 locations or 26.7 percent partially complied with the rules, 585 or 2.9 percent completely ignored them.

Restaurants and public parks were the biggest culprits when it came to disregarding prevention measures.

On May 11, authorities inspected 7,264 restaurants and found that 267 or 3.7 percent were non-compliant, a number that rose 0.7 percent from the previous day.

Officials inspected 471 public parks nationwide on May 11 and found that 15 or 3.2 percent were ignoring the measures, or 0.5 percent more than the previous day.

Of the 4,245 beauty salons and barbers inspected, 125 or 2.5 percent were found to be ignoring prevention regulations.

Officials also visited 201 golf courses and found that 5 or 2.5 percent were non-compliant, up 1.3 percent from the previous day.

From May 3 to 11, officials inspected 126,711 locations and found that 76,791 had fully complied with preventive measures, 45,835 or 36 percent had partially complied, while 4,085 or 3.2 percent ignored them altogether.

The government is planning to let more businesses reopen on May 17, with department stores, beauty clinics and foot-massage parlours expected to be among them. This will be the second phase of reopening after the first phase kicked off on May 3.

personally i would not be pointing that out to thai people. you will run across the wrong one at some point you do realize that ?

Yes, i understand there is always the chance of someone reacting in such a way, but i'm not being at all confrontational. and i understand how easy it can be to forget. I went shopping at Big C the other day and completely forgot to wear my mask. When i tried to enter the store, the staff said to me please wear mask Mr, and i said oh sorry, sorry I forgot, smiled at them  and went back to my car to get my mask. No harm done and no hard feelings. If people tell me to get lost, then okay, i can''t force people, i'm not the law, i'm just trying to do my small part to help my local community .

They should go to Makro ....or any super market ..zero social distancing and no effort too

Correct same as Tesco's, plenty of lines marked on the floor just for show as no or little thought put into it and no notice by customers if they could.

Checking temperature is useless and a waste of time. It doesn't prevent the virus spread. I feel sorry for those people who have to stand and take the temperature. They could've done something else more productive

I quite agree it is useless, but it's a job at a time when millions don't have one. Smile at them and say thank you...you'll make their day.

Also these officials come up with absurd measures, such as limited entry points to the markets creating unnecessary congestion and queues that could actually trigger the virus spread. Some of their measures are not very well thought and need to be reconsidered.

Wearing masks and personal hygiene should suffice entering a market. No need for long queues and congestions for a temperature check.

Sure, makes more sense to keep ALL the gates open and have runners go around collecting information about how many went in or out of each one, right?

Did anyone suggest that 'checking temperature' is there to prevent virus spread, or simply filter out anyone who is sick who is out and about with a temperature?

Wearing masks and personal hygiene do nothing for crowds in high footfall areas. This is the whole point - so markets need to be quiet, and not too many people can go.
