Beleaguered Thai Airways International is likely to file for bankruptcy protection and have to enter a court sanctioned restructuring and rehabilitation process, Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said today.

Mr. Anutin, Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob and Deputy Transport Minister Thaworn Senneam met Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha for about half an hour today to discuss the heavily indebted national airline’s immediate future.

Mr. Anutin said that the Prime Minister agreed that the plan offers the best chance of salvaging the national flag carrier, which is regarded as “the face of Thailand”, but he admitted that an injection of taxpayer’s money, or even allowing the Finance Ministry to guarantee a 50 billion baht loan, being sought by THAI, might be difficult.

Why is the Public Health official commenting on something outside of his supposed wheel house.  Oh yeah, he just needs to hear himself spout out his opinions as always....Why not let the Prime Minister speak for himself.  To many mouth pieces in this government....reminds me of the Talking Heads....

Have a look into some of the people who sit on the Thai Airways Board. There are some military people (of cour$e) who are so bad at their job they’re resigned to opening car doors. And there’s one guy who also sits on the boards of banks and oil companies, etc. A busy man indeed.

The whole thing is an absolute mess. But fear not, Prayut will fix this.

I would have to agree with what you see.  Boards stacked, and many folks with so many added on money jobs they do nothing for.....just being a member receives a pay out, one way to go from a zero to a billionaire over night, just by having friends.

The five or so A380's are part of the problem industry wide.  They are not cost effective unless full for long flights. Loaning to a business with leadership that is certain to fail is a waste of time.  Even good, well managed carriers are having a tough time.  THAI is going to pull the proverbial rabbit out of a hat?  Fortune tellers will have to work overtime.

Which is exactly why they will do everything to bail it out and keep pumping money into the huge void of what would otherwise be a dead company.

Virtually all airlines are in financial trouble. Hopefully they can

pull out of it. It trickles down to suppliers which a good percentage

will go out of business.

The Ghost flights flying empty or near empty to keep their slots

at airports. Read yesterday the shortest Ghost flight recently was

41 km.... this is a huge waste of money. The airlines have asked for

releif on slots but don’t know how that turned out.
