Restaurants and No Alcohol - What is the Logic (If Any)

If Corona gets drunken it becomes more hyperactive than normal.

The alcohol consumed by host will supply sufficient alcohol to Corona to act wild.

Therefore serving alcohol in restaurant will  results in more active Corona.

Used to be in Canada that bars could not open on Sunday But restaurants could and could serve alcohol.  The solution bars started to open little kitchens serving  lasagna, and such easy things.  So take this here.  A smart bar owner says hey as long as I have a restaurant and serve food I can open for my par patrons.  So the bars designate themselves as restaurant providing food and open.

people have proved countless times they are just not to be relied upon while under the influence of this drug..

I think you will find that someone who likes an occasional glass of wine with her/his meal can be relied upon under the influence of this drug. The vast majority do not over indulge

The same thing used to happen in Australia, you would turn up at a nightclub, pay $5 entry and be given a plate of food (a chicken wing and a piece of lettuce) that you then put in the bin. Then drink until 4 in the morning.

I think if you research the facts you'll find that 20% (about 1 in 5 people that drink) have the disease of alcoholism with another 15% - 20% exhibiting a progression towards it (based on their drug consuming habits). That's hardly a vast majority and imo warrants keeping the addicted away from the general public during this health emergency..

I have no problem not having a meal without alcohol.  I just wondered if there was any logic whatsoever to the policy.  As mentioned it would seem as likely that you would get coronavirus sipping a glass of water as you would sipping a beer.  Yet the ban was instituted as part of the coronavirus response.  This one sounds as logical as banning people from the beaches where it has been incontrovertibly shown that sunlight, fresh air, and warm temperatures kill the virus yet the government locked the beaches down.

The logic is there are so many bars which serve some food, that by allowing anywhere that wishes to sell alcohol, sell it with food, opens a loop hole wide enough to drive a truck through.

Every bar will service a portion of chips with each round of drinks and away you go, bars are opened.

Retarded,

You should exercise caution.  You might very well be quoted by Thai authorities as and pointed to as a coronavirus expert.  Then again your explanation makes the most sense of any who have responded to this topic.

I agree. What's the problem with an adult having just one or two alcoholic drinks with their meal?

No problem here in Cambodia - bars, restaurants, pubs, cafes etc. all serve alcohol with your meal if that is your desire - from morning to late at night, no lock-downs or curfews. Glad I moved out of Thailand - logical thinking on my part and after almost 20 years the LOS of no relevance anymore!!

Or more drinks if it doesnt create a problem. People are in Thailand to have a good time along with local thai's. The left is behind lockdown and all these new rules! Plandemic!

Thais will definitely gather in larger groups once alcohol is available. Some I know already are meeting up at a couple of restaurants where there are private rooms etc. where alcohol can be served discreetly. There have been a couple of big nights this week with 10-15 people getting together. You have to remember that the regulations are not aimed at the lone diner who just wants to enjoy a couple of drinks with a meal.

Yes but it is the people it is not aimed at that suffer, and those that it is aimed at that ignore it or find a way around it.

Either way, it makes it a complete waste of time.

For all of you who "think" that relaxing restaurant and bar policies in Thailand is worthwhile  Perhaps you should look at Vietnam.  THEY HAVE ZERO I REPEAT ZERO DEATHS.  Nation of 97 million people and this photo was posted as being in a bar in Hanoi.  So much for Masks, Social Distancing, and No Alcohol

Alcohol does not make people any smarter. It m tends to make people take more risks.

Beaches and bars are places where people tend to congregate, and party.

It would be impossible to quickly implement a comprehensive system for dealing with the virus, and have it please everyone, and make sense to everyone. There are bound to be mistakes and rules that don't make sense.

I'm not saying the Thai government has done a wonderful job, but it's not an easy situation.

Personally, I like to sit in an open air bar every few weeks. I hope they come back online at some point. But if alcohol disappeared from my life completely, I wouldn't miss it. There are literally thousands of more important things to focus on, but to each his or her own

I think the problem started when the govt said only alcohol with a meal, so a bunch of folks thought it was ok to order a Thb 70 plate of chips between say six people and sit there drinking all day/night. Again I believe it’s the small minority that have cornered the powers that be into making it very black and white. Unfortunate for the restauranteurs, but it obviously seemed like an easy fix. Just my view on the situation.

99% of these new regulations are total sheiete, Global  House temp check when in officially Im dead at 35c  but then  you have the girl on the till mauling everything youve  bought (  no gloves on) the girl next to her helping put it in a plastic  bag the man at the exit mauling your receipt and then inside the  plastic  bag mauling that ( they're supposed to stop giving out plastic bags)

At least 3  people touching your stuff, total farce and waste of time, my  biggest gripe  with all of these measures is IT"S USELESS,

Of course it's useless. But they have to give a show of taking precautions, and thinking things through logically has no place in Thailand. Raise the things you raised with any Thai would result in a blank look at best, and possibly a look of disdain as you do 'not understand Thailand'. Not one would agree that what they are doing is useless and full of holes. I'm sure you wouldn't expect anything else.

The majority which had other, sometimes many other pre conditions. The average age of someone who supposedly died of Corona in Massachusetts for example is 82.  What do you think the average life expectancy is??  Many measures in Thailand and USA and elsewhere are pure farce or have other underlying reasons for it which often have to do with politics etc.

Perfectly reasonable, so would opening up the beaches and parks etc... However, us humans have proven ourselves to be the weak link. Not all of us, but some of us.

As events such as this often do, the best and worst of humanity has surfaced.

I suspect an alcohol ban exists because there are those who would abuse otherwise simple social distancing regulations. We've already seen this too many times.

At this time, the restaurants are there for people to eat and then go. Once alcohol is in the mix people would order beer, wine etc, sit there socialise and ultimately get drunk and flout the social distancing regulations.

People can't be trusted, as such restrictions are placed on everyone according to the lowest common denominator - its a shame for the regular decent folk, however, this is a story which repeats itself over and over again - how many times to do the dumb self centered minority ruin things for the majority?

Sir I will lay money on betting your a reformed raging alcoholic.........And now need to save the world to make up for all the years of your life you drank away...

I think the real alcoholic is you if you cannot understand his point , everybody knows that a meal served in a restaurant tastes 100 times better then when your order it take away and eat it at home or have it delivered so be happy that you can eat at the restaurant again and stop whining . If you must drink that bad , then eat at the restaurant and drink at home . Or are you suddenly that caring about the restaurant owner making a litlle extra by selling alcohol . I think their already happy they can open again .

Yes, good, but we should defend our right to free choice and there is no reason or logic behind this arbitrary decision.

What about my right of free choice or are you the only one that is entitled to that because your'e a drinker and why should me and my family not be allowed to go and enjoy our meal at a restaurant without some selfish drunk stumbling over us and knocking our food on my wife's lap and slobbering and spitting all over us and our food. You don't respect our rights so why should we respect yours. Selfish.
