Prayut Chan-o-cha

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has emphasised that students must study online until the Covid-19 situation improves and schools can reopen, government spokesperson Narumon Pinyosinwat said on Monday (May 18).

She added the government was trying to address problems of accessibility and affordability of teaching materials, parental care, and responsibility of learners.

“Initially, we will focus on reducing study time in the classroom, parents’ readiness, and relieving the burden of sending children to school, which will also help to reduce traffic congestion,” she said.

“Meanwhile, we urge education-related authorities to secure people’s cooperation until the Covid-19 outbreak is resolved.”

Yet another proclamation from the all seeing oracle and his band of grubby minions, just a pity they have put zero thought on infrastructure and budgeting...

Actually maybe they have, the people who cannot find a way or afford it don't need an education for what their futures holds..

Who knows. Single digits for some time now. Is he waiting for the whole world to have no cases?

if the stats for thailand are true, and granted this may be a big IF, any western country with similar stats would be pretty much back to normal.

Today's figures from Thailand according to Worldometers.info

Total cases: 3031

New cases: 3

Total deaths: 56

Nothing wrong with caution but the actions don't fit with the figures. This is one of the reasons I struggle to believe the figures Thailand puts out. 3 new cases but schools can't open?

I suspect that low figures will be a factor in many countries for quite some time after the pandemic is formally considered over. How low do they have to get before he removes all restrictions? Or does he know something we don't?

Look how quickly numbers can increase. Russia one month ago had virtually none, now they are at 300,000....schools, bars, anywhere people are close is a breeding ground....taking the virus home to breadwinners will just add to the problem

OK to open the malls, but not schools?

Kids are mobile disease vectors.  They can spread a disease more effectively than anything on Earth!  If one student with a cold or flu comes to a primary classroom he or she is guaranteed to infect at least two or three classmates.  They are especially likely to spread C19, as children are usually asymptomatic and won't even know that they have caught it and are spreading it.

Most schools in Thailand are scheduled to start on July 1 and most Thais live in extended 3 or 4 generation families, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a wave of grandparents falling ill in late July.

Internet access- they may have internet but most of the students I taught at high school and uni were very careful of data charges, they always looked for free wifi. A few hours of online classes each day will use a lot of data.

The policy is going to help with traffic!!!!! Ok, its true, but certainly shouldn't be used as a reason to teach online.

They have already changed the school year and announced it. No October break, short songkran holiday. That should take care of it, why do they insist on making it so much more difficult then they have too. If they do online for 6 weeks then start a regular semester they'll be overwhelmed.

A video posted on Facebook of one lesson from the new TV channel was highly amusing. Also, a man who can't be named on here posted a screenshot of what the daily lessons are about. Let's say that the indoctrination is still alive and well.

Because the good thing about children not going to school and people going to work is that there is no traffic congestion? Is that the logic here? Well now that we know this, let's ban schools forever. Then there will be little traffic.

Amazing. She is paid to say sensible things when politicians ca't be trusted to do that. What hope does Thailand have!!

Shame the Thai authorities can't make a study app that works on the first day then.

My kid thought is was great when it didn't work.

Back to watching 'Minecraft' on Youtube.

They could use Google Classroom or Google Meeting, or both; they work, and that's what some of the International schools are using, they didn't have a break in March and April, and continue till around mid July.
