I believe that is at least part of the reason that Thailand, alone in the region, forbids gambling as too many people would suffer. As for quickly turning to anger, strange when we are told that Thais hate confrontation and avoid it at all costs, I have written before how being trapped in a rigid class system eventually becomes too much for some. Having to bow down to their supposed betters in every area of Thai society and throughout their life, the slightest thing can set them off and they finally snap.
