webfact
Pattaya: Lots of Thais and foreigners exercising on the sidewalk but no one on the beach Thai media 77kaoded reported that they saw lots of Thai and foreign people exercising on beach roads in Pattaya. Nine beaches and beach areas have been shut off so no one is allowed on the sands. And there are measures in place to stop people congregating on the sidewalks. Picture: 77kaoded Alcohol consumption and food is a no-no near the beach. But most joggers were social distancing and wearing masks, they said. Picture: 77kaoded They spoke to Suphanee who said she does up to an hour's exercise a day taking off her mask when she is jogging. Taew (an assumed name) said she was scared but she wore her mask and went to exercise for an hour too. Does that mean City Hall are complicit in supporting Covid-19? They must be giving it more hiding places by continually moving all the sand around and altering the beaches.

KhunFred
I live two blocks from Jomtien Beach, but I won't go near it for fear of being targeted by police. No big loss. I almost never go down there, anyway.

The science, according to the CDC, says that surgical masks won’t stop the wearer from inhaling small airborne particles, which can cause infection. Nor do these masks form a snug seal around the face. The CDC recommends surgical masks only for people who already show symptoms of coronavirus and must go outside, since wearing a mask can help prevent spreading the virus by protecting others nearby when you cough or sneeze. The agency also recommends these masks for caregivers of people infected with the virus.
Guderian
An interesting item in the latest Economist about the fresh outbreak in South Korea. Apparently it was a holiday and the weather was good so tens of thousands flew from Seoul down to Jeju Island to enjoy the beaches. Meanwhile, in Seoul, thousands of people flocked to the crowded night clubs and bars. Not a single case of C19 was recorded among the crowds who spent their holiday on the beaches. Dozens of cases soon appeared among people who'd been in the crowded clubs. The mayor and governor should think about this, there's no evidence I've seen of the virus spreading in the heat and humidity of a tropical beach, but plenty of evidence (including from Bangkok) that crowded, enclosed spaces are an ideal breeding ground for it. So reopen the beaches and welcome the hordes from Bangkok, but keep the clubs and bars firmly shut, and ensure restaurants enforce social distancing. The beach closure is a waste of time and resources by people who simply aren't keeping up with the story. Open them now.

Kerryd
According to the news today, the beaches in Pattaya (and surrounding areas) will be open again on 1 June. Open for "all activities" is what it said so that will make some people happy. They haven't felt the tender caress of a ladyboy pick-pocket for months now !https://thepattayanews.com/2020/05/29/pattaya-city-mayor-says-pattaya-area-beaches-to-reopen-for-all-activities-on-june-first/?fbclid=IwAR2QMSV9vPrcNjCTfb2sm4MbYl-7BOPtDaw71k00uwJkU6jPzwwqQXYthA4
overherebc
Drove along beach road yesterday and obviously ir was very quiet. All the bars deserted etc. I did see a few of the smaller fronted places with doors open and some work going on but whether it was getting ready for future opening or stripping out what was worthwhile and leaving it is hard to say.
