"To show face"?   What does that mean?

The opposite of losing face. Basically to make yourself look good without any substance.

Really?  So what does "to save face" mean?    "To show face" means nothing, apart from to display one's visage.

Thanks for your wrong definition.  The opposite of "losing face" is "retaining dignity or respect", or "avoiding embarrassment or humiliation".   "Looking good without any substance" [sic] doesn't come into it.

What kind of society do we want to live in? One that pays people a living wage? Or one in which rich people buy shoes for random people? We want shoes from rich people! ????

Rich people are rich because they do not buy shoes for he poor.

It is so rare that this event even made the news....

Is that why you asked then? so you could tell me that you know better? ???? your one-upmanship is impressive well it would be if you were right.

If you have never heard a Thai person using the term to show face then you either haven't been here long or you haven't spent much time talking to Thai people that are intelligent enough to have an opinion on these kind of matters.
