webfact
Transport operators boost services as Bangkokians return to work By THE NATION Bangkok Governor Aswin Khwanmuang today (May 21) held talks with city transport operators on plans to implement the “new normal” social distancing as residents return to work. Aswin told operators of trains, boats and buses they must boost the number of vehicles in the system as each phase of lockdown would increase the number of commuters needing transport. The governor also asked operators to ensure a smooth transport service during the wet season, which is about to start. Bus and boat operators said they would lay on more services to cope with the rising number of passengers and to also address the problem of long waiting times at stops. They will also ask businesses to reschedule their working hours so as to reduce the rush-hour load on the mass transportation system. Meanwhile, the government plans to launch remedial measures for bus and boat operators to compensate them for lower passenger numbers due to social distancing measures.
