One-year Extension for Education, expired 01 May - What can be done?

My son is at school here, his one-year ED extension expired on 01 May. Dad's foolish mistake.

English passport, 17 years of age. 

What is the the best course of action now? I believe the auto-extension to end July is only for 'temporary Visa' only?

As he cannot currently leave the country to get a new 30-Day Exemption, do you think there will be some leniency if I take him to CW on Monday to try to renew?

Appreciate any advice from the Visa guru's...

He is covered under the amnesty until July 31st.

I suggest you go to immigration as soon as possible to get it sorted out. Do you have supporting documents from his school?

Thanks for the update, great news that he is covered by the amnesty.

I have requested documents from the school; today, so if they arrive Monday, we can go to CW on Tuesday, and hope we can get some support there.

Will update again next week.

My Education Visa ended on 13 May and all I did was obtain a letter from the University, then took it to Chiang Mai Immigration and they extended my Education Visa for another year. No problems at all.

Chiang Mai university is a totally different kettle of fish. 

They have 'an agreement' with immigration as they are the only school in CM where the student can get a second and indeed third year ED Visa.

Just to close off this topic, an update from my visit last week.

I obtained the correct documents from the school.

Went to CW, got there at 07:45, one table laid out in the entrance with all of the various forms, in case you do not have them. I mentioned to the lady there that his Extension had expired 25 days earlier. She said to check at the counter inside.

They have laid out many chairs out in the main hall as a waiting area in the morning, see pic. We were in row 200+. People were filtered into the Immig area from about 08:00.

We got in about 08:20, got to the first checking desk, I explained the expired Extension issue, she checked all the documents and gave a queue ticket, saying all would be OK. We were queue number 28. At 08:30 it was already at 10. By 09:10 we were in front of the Immig Officer. She was cheerful and pleasant, said that the expired Extension was covered by the amnesty. Documents done, 1900 THB paid, docs to Senior Immig Officer. 09:40 I had a new one years ED Extension and was on my way.

The main issue inside of the Immig area, is that as most of the seats are blocked for 'social distancing', many people are standing, with no 'social distancing' going on. So they may as well open up the  seats. See pic.

All in all, the best experience I have had, in the past 14 years, in CW.
