Thailand's railway police busted a young couple caught with 19 kilos of methamphetamine on a south bound train at Hua Hin railway station.

Daily News reported that police had received information that a drug smuggling operation was running on the 9085 Express from Bang Sue to Thung Song in Nakhon Sri Thammarat.

Operatives spread out on the train and moved on a suspect couple on Bogey #1 as the train entered the station.

The drugs were hidden in Chinese teabags.

Arrested were 22 year old Ekkapong from Bangkok and his friend Methanee, 23, a waitress from Sisaket.

Ekkapong said he was paid 100,000 baht and had done this many times. This time he invited his friend along too.

They were taking the drugs, worth ten million baht,  to hand over to someone in the south.

Investigations continue to get those behind the smuggling operation.

Now sense would have been to follow the shipment to the final destination and finally get Mr. Big.

But then of course we know that might be embarrassing for someone who shuns bad publicity, so lets just nail the mule again!

Yes it would have been very sensible to follow them and get the people higher up the chain, but that would require forward planning/ thinking.

No lets get them now, BIG chance of a photo shot, sadly thats all plod think about, getting their picture in the media.

'received information' Am I missing the obvious here?

Surely anyone involved in the smuggling operation wouldn't have grassed to the police? Some other 'competitor' wouldn't have specific details about the distribution network?

Outstanding collar!  It would be fantastic if law enforcement had more drug sniffing dogs to be walked through trains, buses, and at major points of moving pedestrian traffic.  Keep the Kingdom safer from the scourge of crimes and misery associated with illicit drugs.

What is the use of arresting the mules ? Under the current economic circumstances there will be dozens willing and desperate to take their place. With all the checks currently going on the police could have got their identities, found out their destination and arrested someone worthwhile.

Yes, but that may have been a Police General. ????
