The Provincial Electricity Authority meets with local officials to explain how the project to modernize the Pattaya’s power grid has run smack into the city’s ancient remnants as it digs up Walking Street.

The Provincial Electricity Authority’s project to modernize the Pattaya’s power grid has run smack into the city’s ancient remnants as it digs up Walking Street.

The PEA’s plan was to continue work begun on Beach Road to dig a new trench, lay power and communications lines in a sealed tube and patch the street back up. It hasn’t worked out so easily.

the problem is that when they started digging they found nothing underneath - the east side is built on wooden supports buried into the beach below probably now weakened after digging it up, I would not be feeling at all safe in those structures on the west side of the street even before the dug it up - when was it last inspected for structural integrity ...............ever ?

Yes you are right

all the seaside of walking street is build on the beach

so it's an encroachment on an unbuildable public land

and when you look below the places the supports are in very bad condition

it's just a disaster waiting to happen

i wonder why they don't ask and obtain in court the demolition of all these places?

Who are the beneficiaries of this and how much are they paid every year for ''close'' their eyes?

To make an omelette you have to break eggs, and something HAS to be done about the bay. The technical term for what is needed is an "Interceptor", which should be laid right down Walking Street, with a continuous fall, to a pumping station which will deliver the contents to a sewage treatment plant (if one exists !). EVERYONE discharging waste along Walking Street should be made to connect to the interceptor, and many solutions exist for doing this. If by gravity is not possible,  a small underground storage tank, even 1 cu. met. having automatic pumping cut-in whenever the pit is full would probably be the simplest means of achieving this. Overall a large undertaking, but individually not crippling and an absolute necessity for Pattaya,s Bay.

I noticed today that the Beer Garden entrance is boarded up. Maybe it will be torn down,
