Although my plan was to live in Chiang Mai, the deadly air drove me to seek another location for half the year.

 

Vietnam has done an admirable job of containing the virus.

For the last 40 days in Vietnam there is no case of infection in the community.

(Meaning some has come in while repatriating, but they are screened, quarantined, and contained).

 

Da Nang, a city of 1.1 million, has had 6 confirmed cases early on, all of them cured and released from quarantine/hospital.

 

I feel as safe here as any location currently possible.

 

Beyond that, clean beaches, AQI almost always in green or yellow range (I've seen 0 a few times on my PM 2.5 Sndway device, ), many other positives.

 

Was planning to return June 1st to Chiang Mai, now wondering if I will still be returning June 1st, but in 2021.

Rural Vermont, USA...small farm, spring-fed well, crops, solar, and 3 hours from Boston and Montreal, and 5 from New York...small towns and reasonable people. So if Thailand or circumstances ever send me packing...

But if I had to do it again,  I'd choose western South Dakota or Wyoming...or maybe Uruguay ????

For a Europeen, Azores or Madeira would be a good place to hang out. I do not find any place in Asia a safe heaven if hell broke loose with a war between China and the West. My homecountry border to Russia, so who knows when Nato get occupied on the other side of the world.

For "economic problems" a safe place would be an isolated, self sustaining property away from the ensuing chaos.

 

Depending on the extent of the "violent confrontation", far away from any conflict would be the best bet. Preferably somewhere in the southern hemisphere where you would be the last to be affected.

Thousands of people work outside in Antarctica and seems no problems with the UV radiation.

The real problem for anyone wanting to live there is that it's not possible without the facilities that a base has, and apart from Greenpeace only governments provide those facilities.
