In a study from Iceland, which is testing its entire population only 0.8% of the population tested positive for SARS Cov2 virus.

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2006100

I repeat: Only 0.8% of the general population tested positive for the virus.

So clearly the VERY VAST majority of people do not have SARS Cov2, are not carriers and they present ZERO risk to catching Covid19.

Are you not aware of that?

So your 30% of 0.8% of the population is an EXCEEDINGLY tiny number.

Unless they are also testing for antibodies as well, you will never get a true number, plus there are many times you receive a false negative when in actuality the individual is positive, or even a false positive.  One test just doesn't tell you, in fact people have had to take a few tests before it showed as a positive.  Just to not show any signs or symptoms of Covid is not proof enough and as the Italian in Phuket found out he was infected then a day later his wife fell ill....does that tell you something.

Now all the data is in society has got to realise that catching Chinese Flu isn't a death sentence by a long shot

At the moment the Thais treat it that way

If you told a Thai person you had it they probably wouldn't speak to you again

There is no absolutely concrete evidence that wearing a smelly old mask (and that is what most are wearing) has any effect whatsoever.

Hardly anybody wears a mask in Europe and it's almost sizzled out there now

People need to get a grip and move on with life

A society of people wearing masks & having no human contact all the time will fail

It's just not natural and I've become to hate seeing non communicative/non tactile robots everywhere

In a recent study, your chances of protecting yourself from not getting the are increased by 73% by wearing a smelly old mask.

Masks are everywhere in Europe. Nowhere has successfully turned the tables on infections without quarentines, social distancing and  wearing masks.

Where are you getting your ridiculous information from, Donald Trump?

Just not natural... (tsk)

No its not just Thais.  I have a 'friend' (farang) who refuses to wear a mask saying he has a bad heart and should be dead already so living on borrowed time.  His girlfriend also refuses to wear one saying "UP TO ME!!"  I have another who with his Thai wife have been on watch in hospital for 3 months as their baby son has had serious lung infection (not covid).  After being released from hospital (a high risk area) and back home they were supposed to be in home quarantine for 14 days but seem to find an excuse to go out saying oh we will start tomorrow.

What these people seem to not get into their thick skulls is their behaviour is totally selfish.  What about the risk to others?  What about the danger they are putting their own baby son in who already has serious lung problems.

And now to add insult to injury both these couples are angry with us because we refuse to socialise/drink with them???

Wow the study also finds that of those tested positive 50% were asymptomatic. Further reinforcing the use of face masks for responsible people

Iceland is not using suspect antibodies tests in its research, they're using the full on laboratory PCR tests that are the most accurate. You are referring to faulty antibodies tests, the tests used in Iceland are the full laboratory PCR tests, which are the most accurate. They are accurate in at least 90% of cases. Your anecdotal exceptions are just that, exceptions. The test is accurate in 90% of cases.

In Iceland which is unique in that it is testing its entire population, not just targeted people ie those who are already sick or just travelled, they found that the number of people who test positive for SARS Cov2 is fantastically tiny.

The total number of the general population who tested positive for SARS Cov 2 was 0.8% of the population.

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2006100

Of those actually 43%, not 30%, were asymptomatic. However, 43% of 0.8% is still an EXCEEDINGLY TINY number.

You do understand that the study found that of the general population 0.8% tested positive?

So whether it's 30%, 43%, 50% or 100% is totally immaterial, it is still an EXCEEDINGLY tiny number. It would 50% of 0.8% of the population.

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2006100

Of the ENTIRE population sample tested only 0.8% were found to test positive.

So the VAST majority of people are not asymptomatic, in fact 99.2% of the population is NOT asymptomatic, and does not have the virus.

'it's my right'

Thailand extended the country's state of emergency until end of June. That empowers Thai authorities to extend their authority under the Communicable Disease Control Act to adopt measures to curb the spread of infectious diseases, ie., require mask in certain situations.

So no, he has no legal right in this case to be without a mask. Person should be found and restrained, tested for the covid virus, etc. Depending on his legal status in Thailand, consider deporting him.

The logic against NOT wearing a mask is Ludicrous.

Does this man wear a helmet on a motorcycle ?

Does he wear a seat belt when driving a car ?

Of course he does. But he is unable to connect the dots.

No, I don't expect someone to nail a mask to my face because again, they are involving me in their fear.

You are involved in their fear. You aren't wearing a mask when you've been asked to (and given reasons why).

You can post all the links about mask you want, but I am saying: How many people in countries that routinely "mask up" have new cases (meaning all the new cases come from people who were wearing masks). What more do you need to say?

"Looking at him in the photo, and based on Thailand’s criteria for testing, do you really think he had just been tested? "

Right, I forgot; you can tell by looking at a person if they have been tested (for something/anything). My bad.

Sure thing, Canuck.

Never mind that there is very strong scientific evidence by now that massive mask wearing is very effective in reducing the spread of the deadly virus.

I guess the WHO didn't get the memo:

I have just returned from shopping in the local Mall. The form to fill with pen thousands have handled, or scan the bar code. Thats just to get in. Got to the restaurant and have to do the same but, only two people per table and sit diagonally. At the next table people sat behind you are no more than 30cm away? There is no way you can keep 2 meters from anyone on the concourse

Tops was heaving with people milling about like there is no need to keep distance. The only god thing, if it was, a lady wiping the trolley handles before giving them out. We stocked up with all we will require for at least a month, I'm hoping things will be a little more normal by then.

Bless, yes thank you, I do understand, perhaps you misread my statement so here it is again for you:

"Wow the study also finds that of those tested positive 50% were asymptomatic."

But if you're still confused then please refer to the headline in CNN

Iceland lab's testing suggests 50% of coronavirus cases have no symptoms https://edition.cnn.com/2020/04/01/europe/iceland-testing-coronavirus-intl/index.html

With a population of around just 364,000 numbers are indeed small, not all countries are so tiny.

However the entire population has not been tested as you state, its only an offer for voluntary testing, so far only 13,080 participants have taken up that offer and another 9,199 on targeted testing, all told so far throughout the pandemic they have tested 58,800

No, your friends are actually not selfish, their behaviour is perfectly reasonable.

Since 99.8% of people do not have the virus, are not asymptomatic or symptomatic carriers, to not wear a mask is the most sensible and reasonable course of action.

It is in fact your behaviour that is selfish and misguided in avoiding your friends for no sensible reason, but only the selfish desire to avoid a virus, which 99.2% of the population do not have.

Just because you jump off a cliff because you want to and no one else follows does not mean your right in your opinion. Rules are made to be followed not broken, but then you go in the out door don't you......Me, Me, Me, and only Me. Attitudes are like derriere's everyone has one, you just need to prove yours is bigger.....

Acting like so many other people in the world, especially all the idiots in USA. Let's see how many thousands more will be sick after the Memorial Day weekend.

The numbers may rocket up in about 10-14 days.
