I did some digging: the Bangkok Post (23/11/19) reports that the Chinese requested payment in USD, BOT agreed to pay in USD and took out a USD loan but forward fixed the exchange rate of the loan so there is no currency risk.

Fair do's.

Infrastructure for those that see China as a friend, IMO bombs later for those that don't. They ain't building a huge military because they are scared.

They are in the process of shrinking  the PLA by 1/3.

I hope the Thai people resist. Just ask Malaysia, China built their port , couldn't afford the repayment and China said no sweat, we own now. Malaysia now warning countries not to do biz with China, same thing with two ports in Australia, Same in Africa same in US same in S. America and Mexico.  Go figure, just saying! CCP anyone?

Stop spreading disinformation!

Malaysia has given the green light to resume construction of the high speed train which stopped due to Covid.

Here is the report on Apr 28, 2020

Do you have any credible links to back your other claims?

Yes they tendered it...but there is really only 2 countries that can do this, Japan / China......

And Japan has laws against bribing foreign officials.  Makes the short list even shorter.

Do you know if this Malaysian project is standard gauge? I see it says it's double track.

China will soon be the largest  economy on earth. Better they gain influence by building and financing infrastructure rather than  dropping bombs like the Americans did in this region not that long ago. Prior to the pandemic Cambodia and Laos were booming because of Chinese investment.

1. How soon? 1 month? 5 years? 10 years? One can't even predict the pricies of oil for the next month.

2. You've never heard of Xinjiang, Hong Kong, Tibet, Taiwan, inner Mongolia, for instance, and how peacefull China behaves there?

3. Or jibuti, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, South China Sea where China, by building infrastructure initially, has ended up building military bases?

4. Yeah, Cambodia and Laos were booming. China came and gave them money for free, asking for nothing in return. Likewise, people are also booming when they take credits in the banks.
