Amazing (Trusted) Thailand: Now non-mask wearers are made to do cultural dance as punishment

A video from southern Thailand shows motorcyclists being made to do the cultural dance of "ramwong" around their vehicles for not wearing masks.

The local Phu Yai Ban (responsible village leader) thinks this action - accompanied by a song of your choice - will stop negligence.

None of the people in the video are wearing helmets and one of the people is carrying a very young child.

Thai media 77kaoded reported that Thai netizens loved the idea and we're heaping praise on Sanan "Tu" Mengbut for his wonderful idea that he revealed on Facebook.

Sanan said that he had noticed lots of motorcyclists without masks at a checkpoint. This was unconscionable so he decided to teach them a lesson in a pleasant, cultural manner.

People were given a free mask to wear.

Said Sanan, the village leader in Lamthap sub district: "It's much better than going further up the road and being fined by the police and raises awareness.

"Some are choosing to sing the Loy Krathong song, whatever they fancy".

Thaivisa notes that wearing a face mask when out in Thailand on a motorcycle is not illegal, though not wearing a helmet is a no-no, sometimes dealt with by the police.

Amazing Trusted Thailand is the new slogan of the Tourism Authority of Thailand that is being rolled out in October to replace Amazing Thailand in a bid to woo back tourists, post pandemic.

That's terrible, humiliating them in public.  What about their dignity and human rights

some people are thick as a brick.  You know as well as I Thais have zero respect for the laws. They drive any way they want.  Throw trash as they please.  Helmet, no helmet.  3 to 5 on a motorcycle.  You comment is laughable.  Unbelievable that this is violating there Human Rights.

I’d be happy to dance a little, as opposed to paying a fine.

Im also in favor of stocks for thieves, violent offenders etc, generally criminals not respecting others human rights. Now they deserve zero dignity.

And maybe some people will actively go out with no mask and helmet so they can put their video on tiktok in the hope of going viral.

We will have the "human rights brigade"  on here soon suggesting that they "sue the Headman"

for demeaning unconstitutional demands.

These are disturbing times & I think it is socially responsible to at least comply with well meaning

fairly lighthearted sort of punishment.

The "not law brigade, you cant make me do it" are in the wrong country & regrettably

have this idea that they are better than anyone else..... Get over it

They Cannot give you a Fine .There's No Law in Thailand that says that one Has to Wear a Mask outside. the only thing what they can do if one isn't wearing a mask is refusing one for Entering a Shop/building

Public humiliation for not wearing a mask, implemented by the "head of the village", when there is no law stipulating that masks must be worn?

Thailand 4.0 ????

I don't know what orders have been issued in the province where this took place but in Prachuap we have to wear them.

Quote

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to provide an update on the latest orders issued by Prachuap Khiri Khan province on 3 April, 2020, to combat the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), with immediate effect until further notice.

[...]

All residents must wear surgery or cloth masks when leaving their residence.

The order has not been rescinded yet, as far as I know.

The union flag in the picture posted by Burma Bill is upside down.

Wearing a mask while riding a .motorbike is not illegal, so says Thaivisa. That means it is legal to wear one.

How about not wearing one, is that illegal or legal? Presumably the Poo Yai Ban of an insignificant village reckons it's illegal. Unlawfully stopping traffic, is an offence, surely? Summary punishment issued by this guy is questionable at the least. Could be classified as false arrest?
