What happened to you Colin, car / bike accident in this country?

I know of several friends who have had very very serious accidents here and they have received excellent treatment, from losing an eye, losing all the teeth in a car accident etc, etc.

So  just  like  the  govt investigating themselves.

From the linked Pattaya Mail article:

(Dr. Nattaphan Supaka) said Thai Health Report 2020 collects the statistics from reliable international organizations, revealing Thailand’s healthcare system has gained worldwide recognition for the quality of its healthcare services.

The Global Health Security (GHS) Index, presented by the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) and the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security (JHU) placed Thailand sixth out of 195 countries and first in Asia with the score of 73.2, much higher than the global average at 40.2.

all jokes aside the health care system here is top notch (if you can afford it or have insurance)

years ago my dad landed at the airport and then decided it was a great idea to have a heart attack while walking to immigration. was taken to the remote hospital on site and further taken to a hospital in bkk. during his stay he decided it was a good idea to have a couple more while he was at the hospital. having a team of dedicated specialists etc to take care of him meant the difference between me being able to say hello this morning or not.

back home he would of died. while dead he would of been put on a waiting list to see a specialist. a little far fetched but any canadians on here will agree the speed of our *free* healthcare system is top notch.

i broke my wrist years back here in thailand. went to hospital. checked in. x ray and doctor visit. cast put on. meds given. bill paid. signed out. all of which took approx 45 minutes and cost around 60 cad. when i was a kid at home i sometimes had to come back the next day after breaking my ankle. we can do the cast tomorrow they say.

This sounds like complete nonsense. Me nor anyone in my family  have experienced treatment like this in Canada. Are you from Alberta?  There are consequences to electing conservative governments.  I dislocated her finger while living in Pattaya.  The treatment was top notch but it cost me $1000 Canadian (฿30k) while back home in Canada it would've been completely free.  then

The hospitals that bear names from royal family seem top notch. Reason is probably obvious.

Government hospitals in the sticks - I think I'd rather self medicate.

Why make such a crazy comment, you need to go back look at my posts on this thread.

So according to you i should have just died, rather than be taken to a government hospital.????

There is a certain amount of confusion in this thread.Nobody is suggesting that Thailand has a health system almost uniformly excellent in the manner of Switzerland, Germany or Japan. There are certainly some world class facilities in Bangkok, both private and government - as is well known.Regional facilities perhaps lack the "excellence" label but are often very good. However the most important issue, which has not been mentioned so far, is that for sixty years governments of different types have given priority to the health of the nation and rural health care has been at the heart of this.Thaksin gets credit rightly for revving this up, but actually the philosophy was in place decades before.

Khon Kaen is a major city, not a backwater hamlet in the sticks.

My family have used government hospitals Suan Dok, Nakorn Ping, and San Sai hospitals in Chiang Mai.

Suan Dok for things needing operations (example liver flukes).

Nakorn Ping for serious conditions not involving surgery (example child birth).

San Sai for really obvious routine health care (example wound dressing).

All the hospitals have done first rate jobs (if not pressed beyond their ability), free for my family, and at very reasonable prices for a foreigner. Certainly as good as any hospital I've known in the UK).

As Thaiwrath says, back in the UK, if you're not bleeding or screaming, at least 2 weeks, but more like a month to see anyone, in Thailand I get treated the same day I visit the hospital, and it's 50bht (no parking fees).

My Thai family and myself have been exposed to Thai rural healthcare, from our experience cannot fault it

My siblings, parents and myself in the UK have been have been exposed to NHS healthcare, from our experience cannot fault it

Just lucky I guess ????
