Thai government will pay their people to go on holidays - up to half off hotel cost to stimulate tourism

The Thai government are set to pay their own people to go on holidays in a desperate bid to kickstart the flagging tourism sector in July.

 

The proposal announced by economy and society secretary Tossaporn Sirisamphan says that Thais will be eligible for 40-50% off hotels. 

 

It will be part of a package of 400 billion baht to stimulate the tourism and related sectors.

 

It is part of the stated aim of the government to prioritise domestic tourism under the "Thai Thiaw Thai" (Thais visit Thailand) program.

 

It is proposed that Thais will be issued with coupons for cheap hotel stays as the tourism sector emerges from lockdown in July.

All those people on the 5000baht a month program would probably enjoy a holiday......all be it a brief one.

Not an altogether impractical proposition. It mobilizes society, creates or re establishes a degree of lost employment, generates economic turnover.

With virtually nil domestic infections apparent and tight border controls on imported sources is a well calculated  risk.

I read the other day that the government is looking to borrow a trillion baht to keep it going and to pay for this Covid business, i wonder if this free holidays are part of that loan they're looking to borrow...

Truly is amazing that nearly all tourism based countries think that people that have been made poorer and jobless by the virus will suddenly want to use any money they have left for food and paying the mortgage/rent on a holiday

Didnt they just have an extended holiday? Feed your people first. Am I right in understanding that the average  Farang / Thai mixed family contributes more to the economy than the average thai family? With the additional expense of marriage, retirement work permit visas to name a few, support of thai extended families, 800K THB Bank deposits, monthly costs for the company holding your work permit, Visa runs, flights and hotels etc yet, we get very little in return. As one previous poster mentioned, we will always be considered tourists.

End result  .......... double price for Farang, it's now official government policy.

Japan , Sicily and Mexico amongst others will be encouraging foreign visitors through various incentives including contributing towards flight costs .. Any chance Thailand doing something like that when the borders reopen .?

They should bite the bullet and go for it, half price hotels for the Thais, half price visas, half price beer , half price massage, half price tee fees, half price ladies drinks, half price bar.....Etc etc. for farang.

I smelling some bad odor from this one and its not even out of the oven yet....I would guess staying at a plush hotel is about the last thing on the mind of about 98-99% of the population....
