Carmaker Honda is facing safety questions after another case emerged today (May 27) of its Honda Civic model apparently bursting into flames during a routine journey. Facebook user “Ying Nichada” posted photos of her Honda Civic turbo rs 2019 engulfed in fire by the side of the road.

 

She explained that she was sitting in the car with her brother when the car alarm began sounding at around 2.30pm.

 

Shocked, they immediately tried to pull over and stop the car but found the brakes were not working, said Ying. They managed to pull off the road and use the handbrake to bring the car to a standstill.

 

Flames then began to engulf the entire car, she said.

 

Ying said the car was checked on February 27 by mechanics, who found nothing wrong, so she could not understand the reason for the failures.

She also cited similar cases in November and December 2019.

 

Honda said it is addressing her case.

Yeah it's like you luved the car when buying it and then deciding later you've seen something else you would like.

Honda civic & accord has had recalls on air-bags, battery sensor fires, and now looks like they have a faulty brake problem.

Possible that the brake line from the master cylinder was faulty and either leaked or sprayed fluid when the brakes were pumped onto a warm engine, which then caught fire.  I have seen it many times with many different makes and models of cars over a 35 year career in LE and as a volunteer Battalion Chief with a rural FD.  Could be an actual default as ford had, or maybe the mechanics did not tighten up the hose after replacing or servicing the vehicle the last time it was into them.

I'd say it's a legitimate complaint........only last week a stack of Aussie Hyundai's ranging back to 2005 were recalled because of a very similar fault.

Advice there was not to park in your garage but instead to leave your vehicle parked out in the open until replacement part was fitted as the brake unit fault could cause the car to burst into flames.
