kingofallasians
Can anyone recommend me a decent apartment in these areas for around $300 USD?
dimitriv
I think you have to follow the BTS line further south to find something in that price range. You picked the more expensive places.
blackcab
Those areas really are at the top end of the price range in Bangkok. You will struggle to find anything decent for about 10,000 baht per month there. I suggest you look in the On Nut area, close to the BTS station. There are lots of facilities in the area, which makes it popular. You could also try the Phra Khanong area, which is closer to your initial target but which has a little less in the way of shops, restaurants, etc. If you really want to be in the areas you mentioned then try the even numbered sois of Sukhumvit Road, as they are cheaper than the odd numbered sois. The closer you get to Rama 4 (and the further away you get from the BTS) the cheaper the apartments will get. You have to decide what is better: Close to the BTS in Phra Khanong/On Nut or 1 - 1.5 kilometres away from the BTS but way inside a sub soi of Thong Lo. If you are new to Bangkok you might consider paying slightly more for a one month stay at an apartment, then use that time to find the apartment you will move to long term.
Jajazazajaja
You could negotiate one of the studios here to less than 10K Modern building, but small room https://www.hipflat.co.th/en/projects/lumpini-place-rama-4-kluaynamthai-ilgxsy#available-units
CrunchWrapSupreme
Years ago I was paying about $250 on On Nut. But it was not a nice place. Older, a bit run down, no amenities, and a half hour walk to BTS. Head down into the triple digit Sukhumvit sois, and you can get nice places with fitness and a pool, for $200 USD and a short walk to BTS. I don't see why you need to live in the middle of the action, when it could only be a BTS hop away.
timendres
Sukhumvit Soi 81, Pornphanasap Residence. Nice rooms for as little as 6,500 THB per month. 400m from BTS OnNut, huge Tesco Lotus, brand new Century Theatre Mall (w/ Tops, McD, Starsucks, etc.). My employee lives in that building and loves it.
OneMoreFarang
At the end of Sukhumvit Soi 22 are a couple of apartments in that price range. I wouldn't call them decent but you get what you pay for.

moontang
Seems like many are dead set on the BTS, when there is more value North of Asoke on MRT...you may be able to get walking distance to MRT for less than having to take a moto taxi to On Nut BTS. If you must take transport to MRT or BTS, a songthaew is a huge plus, and a lot safer..like Huai Khwang...lots of Chinese around there, but much more Thai-Chinese than the Chit-Lom Chinese tourist, which I avoid like the plague (or at least serious virus). Getting a taxi on Sukhumvit after BTS closes is problematic at best..
