I agree, and it’s one of those occasions when prosecutors need to do the smart thing rather than the emotively popular thing.

The mistake I feel they made is there was enough evidence in the video cottage to have arrested and charged the officer on Day 1, even the commonly used ‘holding charge’ would have indicated action was being taken.

The delay in taking action is without doubt a contributing factor to the ensuing public anger.

Weird we are beginning to find more common ground these days. But yeah you can't just invent charges. Second degree maybe at best, but demands of first degree will never happen. The burden of proof of proving premeditation would easily be defeated by reasonable doubt.

Either way he will get grilled on some civil rights charge. He is going to be doing his time in protective custody and is already sitting naked in a cell with nothing inside on suicide watch. It doesn't get much worse. So anybody saying he is getting off lightly needs to examine their head.

Would have been totally improper.

They had to do some sort of death investigation.

Interviews, body cams, witnesses, videos, Autopsy info.

That will take a several days if not more in fact it seems they got to the charging stage quite quickly I thought.

The involvement of extreme right wing thugs is much more believable.

Except the only evidence we have right now is the left-wing rioters social media orchestration, not any 'right-wing thugs' at all, and any politician saying otherwise is being a typical politician and sowing even further discord and race-baiting, further flaming an already volatile situation.

I am having trouble with the logic in play at these riots. Black people want to be respected more by others, so to achieve that they burn down city centers, violently attack and threaten people, and run amok in scenes resembling war zones for many days on the flimsiest of excuses.

Many of the rioters, in fact the majority in some cities, are white. Think about that a bit.

Interesting that all this came when the cities were going to reopen for business.

With COVID lockdowns, lost jobs, and the destruction of cities, government will surely have step in to protect and provide for us.

Fear and deprivation are great incentives to that end.

There were 3 cops on the body of the black guy, as well as the cop on his neck,

it appeared that he was in handcuffs as well, so what reason at all did the

killer cop have for being on this guys neck in the first place. Intentional

murder that is the only thing I can see.  The 3rd degree murger charge was

pathetic, so it shows what side the police chief is on.

My opinion.  I do hope Floyd gets proper justice.

Geezer

He would get 20 years if convicted on the current charge. If they put him in general population, he won't last 3 months

He will never be in GP and that's a fact. Can you imagine the wrongful death suit his family would take off the state if they even dared? He will wish he hadn't been born starting yesterday.

The basic fact that most of these riots are happening in democrat states proves your post wrong. This is nothing to do with ancient history or the French revolution, surprised to see events of the late 1700s being blamed for this. IMO this is a variation on the theme of socialism(rewarding mediocrity or below and hammering the concepts of family, responsibility and entrepreneurship) causing hopelessness and then mayhem. Next time they should vote for the GOP, get back to work and feel some pride in themselves and community. After a hard days graft people are too tired to go out burning and stealing widescreen TVs, plus thanks to earning a wage they have a nice TV at home already.

That is sad we not live in perfect world! But like media doing right now is they divine people even more!

Black/white , democrats/republican! So if riots move to other state what is republican is it equally important to bring it up? What difference it make where this happen it's in USA anyway!

Divine people even more can't be good thing.

How is it that such nasty pieces of work as these four individuals are employed as police officers in what is a supposedly Democrat controlled city.

I'd say it's entirely normal for such people to be in the police.

In the UK they like to recruit police from the army.

The lockdown was being eased. Businesses were being reopened. Now, businesses are being burned down.

Thinking the lockdown was bad? Soon there will be curfews and even tighter restrictions. This wasn't a move to achieve freedom - quite the opposite.

Yes a big mistake if you live in the inner city. However it is going to be bad optics to issue citations for haircuts everywhere outside of the urban enclaves now. All the National Guard are in MN, CA, NY, etc. It's free sailing. now outside of those places. We never had it bad anyway, things don' get like that here.

Here's a hint: start with the fact that systemic change does not happen at the ballot box, then go and read the histories of the French and American revolutions.

These two comparisons are in no way relevant to what's happening.

As a general rule the gun nuts are cowards. They will come out to protest only when their allies in blue are there to protect them.

Spoken like a true liberal. Why don't you go up to the NRA 'rednecks' and tell them what you think of them? Then we'll see who the real coward is.

Your analogy is meaningless as a private citizen would never have been put in this situation.

Maybe, maybe not. Police are unfortunately given alot of latitude and cover for such behavior and alot depends on the state.

And if a black person had done the same to a white police person......?

It happens this way (Black on white) more than it does the other way around. Its a statistical fact.

I will admit my attitude has changed from complete indifference to a persons skin color to now where I would be considerably more wary around a group of black people. Well done guys!

Well there are those that like a good loot, the woodwork opens up.

Bet there are many with a free new TV now.....

Every years, there are more whites killed by police than Blacks. But, that doesn't fit the narrative.

If you look it at population samples, the other way round would be even worse than it is now.
