Thai snatch thief with cartoon cash says he got his ideas from foreign movies

Police in Bang Na on the outskirts of Bangkok announced the arrest of a 19 year old man for multiple counts of snatch theft.

 

Siripong - who credited his hitherto successful crime spree on foreign movies - had set up a fake Facebook account. 

 

He then contacted people selling their mobile phones and arranged to meet them by the side of the road, usually in the same place. 

 

He would then produce a bundle of cartoon 1,000 baht notes and after handing them over would race off on his motorcycle with the phone.

 

Using CCTV the police traced him to a metalworks nearby where he got a job three months ago. 

 

However, his salary was not enough for his online gambling and drug habit that emboldened him in his crime activities. 

 

He was ordered held on a charge of snatch theft using a conveyance and fencing stolen property.

 

Bail was denied as he had committed so many crimes.
