Lockdown easing latest: Calls to open bars and clubs ahead of schools rejected

A public health spokesman said that calls to open up pubs, clubs and discos before schools is being rejected.

Dr Thanarak Phaliphat said that representations had been made by the entertainment industry to ease lockdown for them by mid-June.

He said that if that were to happen and if it proved to cause a further outbreak then schools would not be able to open as scheduled on July 1st.

His comments indicated where Thailand's priorities lie, notes Thaivisa.

He said that some schools for small children in unaffected areas were being allowed to open before the July 1st deadline.

He said he was more concerned about universities as students there are adults and would mix and congregate after class and represented a far greater risk of spreading the virus than school children who could be monitored at school and then would go straight home.

Thanarak also advised against foreign travel suggesting that Thais should consider domestic tourism despite cheap deals to go abroad.

He warned against going to Japan despite the country opening up. An exception might be essential business travel. But for tourism purposes it would mean going into 14 day quarantine on return and was just not worth it in his view.

He suggested that all foreign travel for pleasure was not sensible at this time, was problematical anyway and people might wait until there was a vaccine.

The media did not appear to press him on the issue of welcoming foreigners in to Thailand; if the boot was on the other foot 'would foreigners be encouraged to come to the kingdom?' was not a question he faced from Daily News.

He continued that the vulnerable like the elderly, people with health issues and the obese should continue to stay home.

For many continuing to not go out at all was best despite the easing of restrictions.

With no local transmissions for days, where would the outbreak come from? Unless Dr Plipat has other data than us mere mortals.

Do you have proofs that what you said is entirely true for the entire population?

What is the total population in Thailand right now and how many of them were tested? Regards.

Except if they want to change the actual world reputation for Thailand

and get ride of the girlies bars, It could be the unspoken project

I suspect that some (of influence) would quite like to, err, redefine the parameters for owning and operating the "girlie bars". Perhaps as an adjunct to a casino operation in certain selected areas.

Pubs with social distancing and outdoor facilities should be no problem. GO GO Bars, Night Clubs like Speed and Tawandang, crowded bars that employ Bar Girls who mouch about begging for drinks and more are a BIG problem. Keep them closed.

I've actually been advocating the exact opposite of my comment for months.

The action behind the curtain seems to have been setting up a testing network and getting supplies. It should be adequate now. But, we won't get the raw results and haven't been for quite a while:

Dr. Plipat works at DDC and he'd have the raw figures, without the "confirmed in two reference laboratories" hurdle.

Actions speak louder than official reports.

Less that 0.5% of the population have been tested.

The daily figures seemingly reflect a results policy of returnees only ... but without any further information of other testing around the country.

If Thailand is as covid free as they would like us to believe why the need for social distancing or bar closures etc .....seems your odds of winning the top lottery prize are far better than finding yourself sat next to a virus positive person.

Something simply doesnt add up!!

Do you trust common sense and probability based on available known facts or the charade government fantasy announcements.

See post #16

Also, Thailand has been only testing those who turn up at hospital with symptoms, like many other countries. Not many turning up with symptoms, not many tests.

Chicken and egg? Not really.

The ones that the insane conspiracy theorists refer to without any supporting facts/references.

How about german government leaked raport made by whole german commission called by thier minister that they have problem to cover up. Conspiracy is in tv. Raport says its sham or hoax.

93-pages report titled “Analysis of the Crisis Management” has been drafted by a scientific panel appointed by the interior ministry and composed by external medical experts from several German universities.

The report was the initiative of a department of the interior ministry called Unit KM4 and in charge with the “Protection of critical infrastructures”.
