Police in Chiang Rai in the north of Thailand have arrested a man in connection with the murder of another man more than four years ago.

Forty year old Niraphon Somkat was named in a warrant issued by the court in May 2016 for premeditated murder. He denies the charge.

He was arrested in a bank car park before appearing flanked by 11 officers at a police station.

The arrest relates to the murder of 46 year old Chartchai Yortkaew in February of 2016. He was found shot twice 20 meters off the Ban Mae Lua to Pha Rua road.

Naew Na said that the victim was a building contractor, drinker and wife beater who had many conflicts with relatives and associates in the area.

Evidence pointed to Niraphon as the murderer though he has said he knows nothing about it.

So glad they're all observing social distancing in the second photo.

Surprised the police managed to arrest him in these circumstances. It must be the long arm of the law involved for it happen.

Most cameras and smartphone cameras have a "panorama" setting these days - maybe that should be the "new normal"?

That's the second picture of police carrying assault rifles in a matter of days.

What's wrong with their handguns?

Police in that area often get in gunfights with drug smugglers in the jungle and so carry rifles and not guns
