"an existing public holiday"? It's one of the Buddha holidays when alcohol is banned,in this case 2 days in a row. Are people supposed to start celebrating Songkran Fri 3 and Sat 4, then hold up for 2 days and then start again Tuesday 6?

djayz
Just forget about it for this year and offer an extended, super Songkran next year. It's simply no fun getting splashed in the rainy season anyways.

webfact
Songkran compensation holidays likely in July By The Nation File Photo The Cabinet will consider allowing a Songkran break in July this year, in lieu of April when it was cancelled, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, said on June 2. The situation must be monitored after the lifting of lockdown measures in phase three. The Cabinet has enjoined all relevant parties to cooperate in preventing Covid-19, which will help with phase 4 relief in the future. On June 4, there will be a meeting of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) to discuss the delayed Songkran break. Previously, there were discussions that the compensation holidays may be on July 6-7, along with Asarnha Bucha (the day before Buddhist Lent) and Vassa Day, which are on July 4-5. However, now there is a possibility of an extemded holidays from July 4 to July 9. I know its a "what if" but if Covid hit in October/November would the western world have postponed Christmas and then go onto cancel it ?............. I doubt it so why should Thailand, amazing the amount of miserable foreigners on this forum moaning about this, amusingly I would say few reside in Thailand !! Yes, i'm sure most western countries would have forgotten about xmas, pretty sure they'd not have it just as a pandemic is clearing up. I'm not miserable, just hate songkran. ps - you sound like you've got the brain power to get a job with the government here, you should jog on down to the job centre and apply.

munchlet
So we've just had a 3 month holiday and the government wants to give us another 6 days? For Songkran? Perhaps we should be thinking about cancelling some of the current 21 or so public holidays we already have? The land of smiles I'd becoming the land of holidays. 1

Popular Post sidgy
If they want to give back the paid public holidays, then why not make Loy Kratong an extended public holiday. Not sure what date this year but usually its the end Oct/early Nov, that way the schools can get back the half term holiday they want to cancel, as going from july to Xmas/NY without a break is IMO far to much for the students, hopefully borders are open by then and they will be able to showcase a quite pleasent festival to potential tourists and maybe the local populace will hopefully be gainfully employed again and actually get to spend time with their families on a different festival than songkran for a change
