Why do they not stop messing about and just jail him?

This nonsense just shows how farcical the justice system is here.

If he was just a poor man driving an old pickup, he would have been jailed on the first day... Bloody pathetic.

Just highlights the whole pathetic hi-so <deleted> LOS rotates around.

How can you say it's farcical?

The Thai justice system is the best money can buy.

who claimed he graduated with a Master’s degree from university abroad, was an executive of several companies and had made numerous contributions to society. He also claimed that he entered the monkhood for two months

Oh, he had a check list! And numerous contributions to the society of brown envelope addicts!

How many further appeals will he launch to keep out of the prison system?

There are no further appeals. The Supreme court is the court of final instance.

They will now, he is out of options. No Colin, you are wrong there. If ANY person can afford bail in the form of cash or a land title, they are allowed bail from the court of first instance, the court of appeal right up to the Supreme court. If they cannot afford bail, they are held on remand in prison until they have exhausted all appeals. That time is deducted from their sentence.

He probably spent his "monkhood" at a posh Bangkok temple, reporting in for occasional sleepovers.

Thai "prison", for the wealthy, is a different type of incarceration than what the little people experience.

No, Thai prison is Thai prison, the only thing his wealth will buy him is a smaller cell, better sleeping conditions, better food and minions to do his washing. There are no seprate prisons for the wealthy, just an easier way of getting through it,

Wow.  Only took 4 years.  Still, better late than never.

Now the question becomes, how much of that 4 years he actually spends in prison before his connections and his cash get him out.

He'd probably already be out if he hadn't appealed his 2-1/2 year sentence.  Ouch.

The REAL question becomes, will he even set foot inside a jail DESPITE what the newspapers have reported ? The media often print total nonsense because they know that it will float by unnoticed. I remember seeing a HEADLINE with accompanying photo of a guy with a jackhammer, saying "IT,S STARTED", in relation to the demolition of the west side buildings on Pattaya,s Walking Street several years ago. Six months later I went down to see how the work was progressing, and not one tile had been removed ! A quick photo session and that was it.

Due process

Google Guinness trial if you really want a farcical justice system (UK) and let’s not mention OJ Simpson ....

As you point out, accommodations are different - not the rats, rice and hole in the floor.
