H. in Moo 4 of Koh Lak sub-district, Muang district yesterday. He was on overstay of around seven years - 2,528 days. Talk News Online said the man was on a retirement visa and had first entered Thailand in July of 2011 with permission to stay one year. Picture: Talk News Online Pol Col Sutthipong itemised the blacklist time periods for people who overstay their visas and in the case of the German man he will be banned from entering Thailand again for ten years. That seems more of a reason to think that he was grassed up , many people knowing he was on overstay .If no one knew he was overstaying , that would mean less likely to be grassed up . But he'll go back and can spend the next 10 years taking advantage of the German Healthcare system. Probably won't be back again in any event. He'll be 74 by the time he's legally allowed to return and if he tries any shenanigans (like changing his name) no doubt he'd get reported (again) by the same person that reported him the first time. I love how there doesn't seem to be any appeal process or leniency though. Literally, if they'd caught him on a 2 day overstay they'd do the exact same thing (with a shorter black list period). Back home if the government tried that, the first thing that would happen is some lawyer would file for an immediate injunction and then a bail request and within hours you'd be back home and probably secure in the knowledge that your case probably won't even make it to court for 3-6 months. The lawyers could tie it up in court to the point the government finally gives up and agrees to let you fix whatever issue they nicked you for, assuming the judge didn't tell them to do that in the first place. We've had people fight extradition orders in Canada all the way to the Supreme Court ! Every time one court ordered an extradition, the lawyers appealed it to a higher court and, for some reason, every time it went to appeal, the extradition order was overturned but when it went back to court it was upheld. It is very strange Micheal was well known to both Thais and foreigners he has helped the local police at various times so something or "someone" has changed recently to bring this about.
