An inspection of Lumpini Boxing Stadium, which has been identified as the epicentre of the country’s Covid-19 outbreak, has found serious defects in the venue’s disease control measures. The findings were revealed on Thursday (June 4) by Maj-General Burin Thongpraphai, who heads the office of the judge advocate.

Army chief Apirat Kongsompong has ordered all members of the committee that manages the Army-run stadium to be transferred to other posts as punishment. Earlier, Apirat ordered the transfer of the stadium’s manager, Maj General Rachit Arunrungsee.

The stadium went ahead with a boxing event on March 6, two days after it was ordered to shut under lockdown restrictions. The event resulted in a cluster of infections that later spawned contagions in several provinces across the country.

Rachit was transferred to the Army’s civil service headquarters and will reportedly retire this September.

dont worry, fullpay; wait till public attention span wanders, then old job back; sabai, sabai; maybe even promotion for being good boys

But, but, but... they (possibly) lost their place at the (erm, "extra"?) money trough, and that then the real punishment?

Well done, fish lips. With the removal of this lot and your recent assurance that corruption has been largely solved within the army, we can look forward to no more scandals. And if there are, we can definitely look forward to your resignation, right?

Apirat is due to retire later this year.

This is a man who refers to the Thai military as 'sacred' and that recently said the military were helping protect the country from an online proxy war.

Looking at him and his family background I would not believe a word he says.

Rumour has it that the stadium is going to be taken over by CP so good chance there wont be an old job left.

Apirat ordered the transfer of the stadium’s manager, Maj General Rachit Arunrungsee. This is literally only as far as they were willing to go, for a boxing event that was hugely responsible for the initial spread of this virus. First of all, he should be arrested, prosecuted for malfeasance and jailed. Second, someone major in the administration like the hapless Prawit, should share in the blame, be dismissed immediately, and be shamed and ostracized in a major way.

These guys just do not see how they appear to the public. Always protecting their own. They will pay the price for this above the law behavior, eventually. The army is more and more despised by the day here.

Just disgusting. ???? They are directly responsible and complicit in how many deaths and how many millions of baht in medical expenses, not to mention all of the pain and suffering people endured? And they only get fired? Talk about having connections. ????
