webfact Posted June 5, 2020 Share Posted June 5, 2020 The greening of Bangkok continues - new parks opening, more environmentally friendly use of land Picture: Daily News Daily News reported that a meeting was held yesterday to update participants in the "Green Bangkok 2030" project that aims to make the capital more liveable and more environmentally friendly over the next decade. Chaired by deputy official Silapa-suay Raweesaengsoon the meeting in Din Daeng was attended by environmentalists and officials representing the Big Trees Project and We Park. In an upbeat report progress was reported on major park areas in the metropolitan area. Piyaphirom Gardens in Bangkapi has already opened. Santiporn Gardens in Phra Nakhon district will be ready in August and an 18 rai project in the Rom Klao area near the Suvarnabhumi airport should be open in September. In addition the Bang Rak community gardens, a project in Viphavadee Soi 18, and gardens at the Bang Khun Thian land office area will be finished in 2021. Picture: Daily News Nine other projects are being proposed and considered in 2021/22. The We Park group spoke about the "New Normal" life for Bangkok residents and their plans in three areas. These are turning unused land and land as yet undeveloped into areas producing food for public consumption, the pedestrianization of shady areas where vehicles can be discouraged and the introduction of "Pocket Parks" - small areas for local communities to enjoy. All three of these are collaborations between government and the public, they said.
