the virus vs protests

Recommended Posts

during this whole virus situation we have been told over and over about social distancing and stopping the spread etc. fast forward to this past week and there was mass protests all over the world. now...

if in 2 weeks there is not a massive new wave of the virus. what then ?

if there is not a huge uptick in the new cases does that not sort of blow the whole social distancing and isolation thing out of the water ?

time is ticking on this one. i bet we don't see a big increase in corona cases. if that happens you can be sure as shoot that people are going to be a little more angry than they are now.

i don't see this ending well at all.

It's a timely question.

The virus is definitely still out there in the US without any doubt.

The stress of the virus and the related economic disaster are definitely related to the protests as these woes have impacted black Americans especially hard.

I would assert though that to gauge any potential impact from the mass protests it would be more realistic to wait a month, not two weeks. Because at two weeks time infected people will generally not even be sick enough to see a doctor.

America Is Giving Up on the Pandemic

Businesses are reopening. Protests are erupting nationwide. But the virus isn’t done with us.

It is already happening today the US reported cases rose in 23 states and they are estimating 30,000 more deaths in June.

Jingthing is correct people are sick of it and giving up and opening businesses.

With everything that has and is happening, I doubt any future lockdown attempts will be accepted so herd deaths will probably be the future.

3 months of being couped up in the UK and this is what happens.

The general population aren't stupid. People are fed up being lectured at by civil servants, either politicans or scientists, who won't lose their jobs and livelihoods even if we stay in lockdown for decades.

The lockdowns globally are over and there won't be a second one.

And they should, while they still can.
Too many will stay closed forever already.

Don't use intentionally misleading snippets. That is not OK.

Here is the actual paragraph that was from.

"America Is Giving Up on the Pandemic

Wouldn’t it be ironic if Black Lives Matter protests caused more black deaths from Covid-19, as younger protesters bring the virus back into their homes, infecting others.

Not sure about ironic. But it would be tragic yes.

If people want to protest peacefully let them, whether against lock downs, BLM or whatever. Most of the protesters are not in the danger age group anyway. If they get infected then so be it, it was their choice. Only caveat I would add though is that whatever peoples issues, it always comes back to the fact that that the very rich are getting even richer and pretty much everyone else screwed, opportunity is disappearing. A healthy economy that shares the wealth in a reasonable manner creates jobs and lifestyles that minimizes discontent and fosters equality. As long as we are kept angry at each other (largely by the media) we ignore the actual manipulators hidden behind the curtain.
