Krabi: Very little going on in Ao Nang - except for some praiseworthy foreigners tidying up!

Manager reported from the Ao Nang beach resort in Krabi where some businesses are starting to open up post lockdown.

The main problem was there are just virtually no tourists to patronize the businesses that DO open.

The main attraction on the beach was the sight of two foreigners with a sack collecting trash.

That was about the only thing of note, as praiseworthy as it was.

Is it something of a catch 22? Tourists (just domestic at this stage) don't want to go there because not much is open, restaurants and hotels don't want to open because there aren't any tourists.

Already dead in a normal low season, now definitely a cemetary atmosphere.

The beaches have never been better actually.

Main reason why it is still quiet is that the national parks haven't opened yet. All the nearby islands, including Phi Phi, are within national marine parks. And that's what people come for mostly.

I live in Krabi. My hotel is open, the beaches are empty (which is great), restaurants are open. Feels like it did when I moved here 14 years ago.

If I didn't need guests at my hotel I would certainly join many others in saying - "long may it stay this way"

Same going on in Phuket.

Only the farang cleaning the beaches ... locals seem uninterested , but they  definitely want more tourists !
